Whangarei. —6th ultimo, from a room at the James Hotel, Cameron Street, the property of FLORENCE MOLLY BISSET, 'a ladies’ 9 ct. gold 15-jewel Stylex wristlet-watch, repair No. 388 W. on inside back case, dial divided into four with alternate shades of light grey and dark grey, small numerals, gold expanding bracelet about f in. wide with clip at each end attached; value, £7. Identifiable.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —12th November last, from a boat-shed at Sentinel Beach, the property of CHARLES HERBERT HARDMAN, 45 Liverpool Street, Epsom, a brown suit with pin stripes, fit man about 5 ft. 8 in., brown silk lining, “ Alfred Bevege and Co., Auckland,” on tag on inside coat, tunnel loops for belt and fob pocket on trousers; a white coat-shirt, 144 in. neck; a white cotton sleeveless singlet; a gold wristlet-watch (believed Carma make), No. 151503, luminous dial, leather strap with goldplated clasp attached ; and a 10s. note : total value, £l9 19s. Suit and watch only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair ; dressed in brown trousers, pink-striped shirt, and jacket with light stripes. He was given a meal in the shed by complainant, and after the offence had been committed the latter found shoes and a shirt, which he had previously seen suspect wearing, discarded in the shed,

Freeman’s —Between 18th and 24th]jDecember last, from the yacht “Vanina,” the property of PATRICK GOODWIN SMITH, 2 Freemont Street, six 50 lb. pigs of lead ballast; 25 fathoms of 3 in. coir rope, spliced at end; and a three-cell electric torch, large head: total value, £7 13s. 6d. Rope only identifiable.

Auckland. Between April and 26th December last, from the dwelling of ELIZABETH BARNETT, 45 Cliff Road, St. Heliers, a ladies’ old-gold open-face keyless pocket watch which has been converted into a wristlet-watch, No. 5709, repair No. 4157 on inside back case, embossed case, leather strap attached ; and two pairs of old binoculars, one in light tan case and the other in a black case : total value, £l2. Auckland. the 20th and 30th April, 1938, from the Quartermaster’s Store, Papakura, the property of the NEW ZEALAND/JOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a, pair of black leather covered army pattern prismatic binoculars, No. 69505, “ A. Kershaw & Sons, Ltd., Leeds, 1918 ” stamped on right shoulder, and “ Binocular Prismatic No. 3 Mk. 1, Magnification 6 ” on left shoulder, black leather strap attached, contained in a light-brown leather case, with “ Case No. 3, Prismatic Binoculars, J. Cripps, 1918 ” on lid. Binoculars and case have broad arrow on them : total value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. On the 20th or 21st ultimo, the dwelling of NORMAN ALBERT BEETSON, 68 Kildare Avenue, St. Heliers, was broken into, and the following stolen : A ladies’ small green silk dressing-gown, with large white dragon on front and back, fully lined with white silk, wide sleeves; a ladies’ grey half-length fur coat, lined with grey silk, large collar, one fur-covered button, two inside pockets, one of which is damaged; and a set of gentlemen’s sky-blue silk pyjamas trimmed with white, “ Kememo 5500 ” on tag at neck : total value, £lO 12s. 6d. Identifiable.

Auckland. — 28th January last, from the El Rey Cabaret, Mount Roskill, the property of DORIGEN ESDAILE, Station Hotel, a silver-fox fur cape, lined with black satin, “ Revillion Freres ” on inside tag, one skin, triangular shape, fastens in front with two legs and press-knob, fox head at centre back ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Auckland. —15th November last, from a bathroom on the ship “ Port Auckland,” en route from Panama to Auckland, the property of MARGARITE SYMONS, 88 Leadenhall Street, London, a ladies’ old-gold wristlet- grey round dial with “ John Pound ” on it, Roman numerals (no second hand), chain expanding wristlet with safety clip attached value, £6. Identifiable.

Auckland.— During the night of 12th ultimo, the office of HERBERT VALENTINE, Service-station Proprietor, 1093 Dominion Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A dirty brown canvas bag, size about 6 in. by 4 in., containing £5 Is. 2d. in money; and a gentlemen’s rolledgold open-face keyless Grosvenor dress watch, repair No. B. 9342 on back case, Arabic numerals : total value, £7 Is. 2d. Watch only identifiable.

Auckland.— the 27th and 30th November last, from a room in the Vines Boardinghouse, St. Martin’s Lane, the property of LEO LESLIE JONES, a double-breasted navyblue three-piece Sincerity suit with'faint blue stripes between white stripes, purchased from James Smith, Ltd., Wellington, fob pocket with flap on trousers ; value, £9. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Gerald or Jerry Cranston, alias William Raymond Fitzgerald, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page .133, and Photographs, 1938, page 87. He may be wearing a green two-piece suit and brown shoes (no hat). Suspect occupied a room at the boardinghouse mentioned, but he left on the 28th November last without paying for his accommodation, and complainant later discovered that the suit had been stolen O/VtJS&fodj In ZQ

Auckland. —On the' 29th January last, the jeweller’s shop of HENRY NETTLESHIP, 67 Karangahape Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A black velvet ringpad, about 6 in. by 3 in., containing six 9 ct. gold signet rings, three are heart-shaped, two shield-shaped, and the other is what is known as “ step shoulder ” design; a mottledgreen Conway Stewart fountain-pen in fancy green case, about 7 in. long ; a gentlemen’s chromium open-face keyless wristlet-watch, about lj : in. by in., Arabic luminous numerals, grey leather strap attached; and a gentlemen’s chromium wristlet-watch: total value, £ll Is. Not identifiable. George Smale, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 134, who is at present in custody • awaiting trial for a similar offence, has been interviewed regarding this offence, but no evidence resulted. The damage to complainant’s shop window is estimated at £8 19s.

Otahuhu. —Between the 26th and 28th January last, from the Wembley Boardinghouse, the property of ELIZABETH PIPER, six pairs of white linen double-bed sheets, and six pairs of white linen single-bed sheets, “ Piper” in ink on some of them : total value, £llss. Portion identifiable.

Manurewa.- — 24th and 28th January last, from a hut, the property of NEVILLE PERCY NEWTON AICHEN, Mahia Road, two £5 notes and four £1 notes. Not identifiable.

Waiuku. — the night of Bth January last, from Graham’s Beach, Manukau Harbour, the property of WILLIAM GEORGE HUDSON, a wooden dinghy, 9 ft. long, bottom painted red, painted white on outside and dark green on inside, coir rope fender around outside edge ; value, £lB. Gisborne. —9th November last, from a motor-truck in Gladstone Road, the property of CLAUDE KAAHO, Ruatoki, Taneatua, a Whakatane Post-office Savings-bank book in complainant’s name, No. 3366, showing a credit balance of about £SO; an order on New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., for £4 6s. 6d. in name of Sonny White, signed “C. M. Faulkiner,” and dated 9/11/38 ; a gentlemen’s lightbrown sports coat, medium size, plain back; and £4 10s. in money : total value, £5 16s. Identifiable except money.

Taumarunui. During the night of 13th instant, the office of the TAUMARUNUI BOROUGH COUNCIL was broken into and the following stolen from the safe : £lO5 2s. Bd. in money, made up of about fifteen £5 notes and the remainder in £1 notes and silver ; a cheque for £9 Is. lOd., No. 212301, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Taumarunui, by E. E. or S. R. Dryland, dated 10/3/39 ; a cheque for £8 13s. 5d., No. A. 541724, drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Taumarunui, by F. Ashurst, dated 13/3/39; a cheque for £94 11s. Bd., No. 261991, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, by Wade and Mephan, dated 11/3/39 ; a cheque for £6 9s. 7d., No. 181080, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Taumarunui, by R. E. Rennie, dated 11/3/39 ; and a cheque for £lB 7s. 10d., No. 294610, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Taumarunui, by T. ■ New Plymouth. —llth instant, from the dwelling of WILLIAM GEORGE PATTEN, 30 Gilbert Street, three £5 and six £1 notes; about 12s. in silver ; a 10s. note ; and a cheque for £2B Is. 7d., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Hawera, by the Joll Dairy Co. in favour of No. 818, and signed “M. C. Mclntyre, Sec.,” and “ Geo. H. Meuli, Director,” and it had been endorsed by “J. Warnock ” : total value, £SO 3s. 7d. Cheque only identifiable.

Hastings. —9th January last, from the dwelling of DOUGLAS FRANCIS HEYWOOD, 204 Hastings Street, an 18 ct. gold watch-chain (recovered) ; a gentlemen’s silver key-wind hunting watch, John Chattaway make, number begins with “ 17,” split seconds and twenty-four hours on dial, numerals cut in dial, small gold stop-block on side; a gold signet ring ; and a silver band ring : total value, £B. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to J. Goodman (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, slight build, medium complexion ; dressed in a dark-blue suit and felt hat. On the 9th January last the watch-chain was recovered from a second-hand dealer, to whom it had been sold for ss. by the man described above.

Wanganui. — the night of 7th instant, the shop of McGRUER’S LTD., Victoria Avenue, was broken into and £6 ss. in money stolen. Not identifiable. The safe was ! forced open with tools, the property of L. C. CORNISH, whose adjoining premises were also broken into about the ; same time.

Palmerston North. —sth January last, from the AucklandWellington Limited Express, the property of EDWARD BARTHOLOMEW CALLERY, McCrae’s Flat, Otago, a brown leather gladstone bag, size about 14 in. by 10 in. by 10 in., “ E.8.C.” on side, nickle top, locks at each end ; a complete set of artificial teeth ; a three-cell torch a clothes•brush, and boot-cleaning outfit, &c.; and a medical pre-. scription : total value, £l6. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age. about twenty-one, : height 5 ft. 8 in., curly fair hair; dressed in a dark suit; slightly stooped; talkative. He sat next to complainant, .who left the carriage for refreshments at Palmerston North, and when he returned to his seat suspect had disappeared, and the above-described property was discovered to have been stolen. .
