Auckland. —10th ultimo, for falsC pretences, F. Murray (name probably fictitious), age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair, dirty teeth ; dressed in a bluish-grey tweed suit and felt hat; untidy appearance ; talkative. He purchased a quantity of bulbs, value £1 10s., from Gordon Nicholls, of Griffiths’ Mount Eden Nurseries, Ltd., and instructed that they be forwarded to Ngaruawahia, and he tendered in payment a valueless cheque for £5 (receiving £3 10s. in cash), No. 865706, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Ngaruawahia, in favour of L. A. Griffiths’ Nurseries, Ltd., dated 9/2/39, and signed “F. Murray.” Accused purchased the cheque-form from Morse and Pollock, butchers, Ngaruawahia, on the 7th or Bth ultimo. The bulbs have been recovered from the Post-office, Ngaruawahia. Accused may be identical with W. Baker, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, pagrf 117 yNo warrant. 4tee's/sr/39. ■w~V/ 5 7~ ) 7i Auckland. —On or about 17th January last,'on warrant for false pretences, Eric Stanley Watts, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., insurance agent, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, prominent lower jaw ; neatly dressed in a navy-blue suit; good appearance ; plausible. He was employed by the T. and G. Assurance Society, and he obtained £173 from Thomas Arthur Taylor, 57 Albert Street, by falsely representing that he was authorized by the said society to sell a surrendered policy, and that it was actually held for sale by the firm mentioned, whereas, in fact, no swfii policy existed. There are other similar charges pending, and he may attempt to leave, this Wutnh'fy Opotiki. —6th instant, on warrant of commitment to Opotiki Prison for five days in default of paying £1 11s. fine and costs for being found on licensed premises during prohibited hours, Andrew John McDonald, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 613, and Photographs, 1934, page 68. Gisborne. —24th January last, on warrant of commitment to Gisborne Prisonjier fourteen days in,.default of paying £lO 3s. arrears on a raaintena for the support of his wife and three children, Jtterfry on Harry Amos, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 683.

Hastings. ultimo, on warrant for unlawfully converting to his own use a Lafayette motor-car (recovered), value £285, the property of Reynold Mclntyre, Herbert Thomas Raxworthy, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 571, and Photographs, 1932, page 46. He was dressed in a blue old suit and white cricket boots (no hat). On the 28th ultimo accused was seen in the car, and it was subsequently found abandoned on the Napier-Wairoa Road, near Kotemaori. He was employed at Raupunga until the 3rd instant, and while there he threw away the keys of the car, and also, told another employee, Thomas James Strong, that he had taken the car.
