Whangarei. —l9th August last, on, warrant for theft of a cheque for £22, the property of Harold Ernest Baigent, 518 Cooke’s Buildings, Auckland, Kenneth St. Albans Hodgson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 702. He was employed by complainant to sell vacuum cleaners on commission, and on the 19th August last he received a cheque for £22 from William Chisholm Dempster, Otonga, in payment for a Tellus vacuum cleaner, and fraudulently omitted to pay the amount to his employer. There is another charge pending. He left for Australia on the 15th September last - <? ' <?. C4-J.

Auckland. -20th September last, for false pretences, Des McLean (description not available). On seeing an advertisement in the New Zealand Herald of the 10th September last, inserted by a man desiring work on a dairy-farm, Reginald Buchanan, farmer, Rawene, replied to the request and offered employment. On the 19th September Mr. Buchanan received a telegram sent by Des McLean from Auckland East Post-office asking for his fare to be wired to him at the G.P.0., Auckland. A money-order telegram for £2 was forwarded, and the money was collected by a man who signed his name as Des McClean. Other similar offences have been committed, different names having been used in each instance. No warrant.

Auckland. —That. he may be located and interviewed regarding the breaking and entering of the shop of Ernest Edward Balderson, mercer, St. George Street, Papatoetoe, and theft of clothing (recovered),, value, £ll Is. 6d., Man (name unknown), age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in. ; medium build, fair complexion, ginger hair, square shoulders ; dressed in a dark suit and small dark beret. The stolen property was found in some gorse about a mile from the scene of the crime. A good finger-print, which has been preserved, was found on one of the stolen articles. Bloodstains on the broken window indicate that the offender cut himself when removing the property. No warrant.
