Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —18th March last, that two summonses may be served on him for bringing a •45 calibre pistol into New Zealand and having in his possession without a permit a -45 calibre pistol, George Sterio, alias Costello, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., showman, native of Australia, strong build, dark complexion, black hair. He is an Australian-born gipsy, and frequents shows with his wife, Mary Costello, alias Julia Shultz, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 496, who is a fortune-teller.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —26th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £3 ss. fine and costs for fighting, Michael Alban Atkinson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 563, and Photographs, page 13. Auckland. —3rd ultimo, for false pretences, A. Monzies (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build ; neatly dressed in a dark-grey tweed suit and dark-brown felt hat. Accused obtained 15s. lid. in cash and two gallons of benzine from James Arthur Green, garage proprietor, 12 Parrish Road, Sandringham, by means of a valueless cheque for £1 on the Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, No. 3A. 099945, dated 2nd July, 1938. He is believed to be identical with Arnold Vaughan Sutton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page/ 549, and Photographs, page 52. The cheque is from a losjf.or'stolfii at Christchurch. Auckland. —That he n/ay be located and interviewed regarding the following charges—(l) “ On the 19th February, 1938, at Auckland, did steal furniture and fittings, value, £26 10s., the property of the Newton Loan Agency ” ; (2) “ On the 23rd February, 1938, at Auckland, with intent to defraud did obtain £lO from Leslie Edwin Wilkie Wood, by falsely representing that furniture and fittings were in his care at 141 Symonds Street, and that he was still in business at that address, ” Ronald O’Shea, alias Robert Ruff, age fifty-nine, height 5 ft. 5| in., confectioner, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, large nose, cleft palate, impediment in speech. He conducted a home-cookery business at 141 Symonds Street, and on the 23rd December last he obtained a loan from the Newton Loan Agency, to which firm ho gave as security a bill of sale over furniture and fittings at his business premises. On the 19th February last he sold the business, furniture and fittings, to Miss Ora Elizabeth Hammer, and two days later he obtained a further loan from the agency mentioned by falsely representing that he was still in the same business. He is usually well dressed ; may be wearing a grey suit and grey overcoat (no hat). Accused obtained £7 10s. from Florence , Kate Millear, Tuakau, ley falsely representing that he had 7. shares for sale in the Tobacco Co., Napier. ,

Rotorua. — imtimof on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child of whom Lillian Wymer is the mother, David Allan Ferry, age twenty-nine, height 6 ft. 3 in., motordriver, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, right arm injured and crooked. 7 New Plymouth. —4th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his three children, Basil Gordon John Gwilliam, age thirtyeight, height 5 ft. 9 in., seaman, barman, taxi-driver, and hotel porter, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, protruding ears, deep lines in cheeks, scar on right side of mouth, on back of head, and on each leg, “ 8.G.” and bunch of heather on one forearm; well dressed. About the 3rd February last he obtained £SO from her by falsely representing that he was a single man and eligible to marry her, and also that he was negotiating to buy a house in Henry Street, Kilbirnie. An information has also been laid against him charging him with obtaining a further £4B 10s. from Dorothy Graham by false pretences. He is a married man with three children.
