He is usually neatly dressed in a navy-blue suit and felt hat. The complainant, who desired to sell her radio-set, was informed by accused, who was then employed as a radio salesman, that he had an. offer of £7 for the set. She agreed to accept this amount and permitted him to take it away. He has not paid her over the money, and inquiries have revealed that about the 9th May last he sold the radio-set to Thomas John Brennan, Te Aro Hotel, for £l6. ,

Christchurch. —13th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ivy Pay Frith, and child, Ronald Alfred Frith, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., lorry-driver, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, long face, dimple in chin, spear and snake on left forearm. Christchurch. —Between the Ist December and the 28th February last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £3 'los., the property of Gerald Dennis McCarthy, Ladbrooks, Alex. Vivian Francis Wilson, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; shabby appearance. He borrowed the bicycle and subsequently sold it without authority. He admitted the offence to the police and was served with a summons, but he failed to obey it.

Christchurch. 23rd February last, on warrant for indecent assault on Daphne June Brown (age eleven), 30 Loftus Street, Papanui, Douglas Wilfred Nathaniel Suckling, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, broken nose ; smartly dressed ; short quick gait. Accused took the child into a garage on the Tai Tapu - Akaroa Road and indecently assaulted her. There are other similar charges pending.

Christchurch. —17th ultimo, for a breach of his probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), John Kelly, alias Frederick Pratt, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 145, and Photographs, 1921, page 26. He has failed to make restitution, and his arrest is desired.

. Ashburton. —14th instant, that he may be located and interviewed, W. Biddulph or Benjamin William Biddulph, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 2 in. He was last heard of at Christchurch on the 14th May last. Two days after the death of Mary Catherine Gorman, 220 Wills Street, Ashburton, a fountain-pen, value about 2s. 6d., with a letter alleging that the fountain-pen had been ordered by her, reached the deceased’s address. The letter was signed “W. Biddulph,” and contained a request for 12s. 6d. to be forwarded in payment for the pen. ’ The relatives of deceased state that the fountain-pen was not ordered by her. It is now thought that Biddulph procured about fifty correspondence sheets headed “ Scott and Biddulph, Importers, Christchurch,” and used them to write to persons who he knew had recently died,, stating that he was forwarding the fountain-pen they had ordered and requesting payment of 12s. 6d.

Timaru. — E. McKnight, deserting from the ship “ Trojan Star.” : His description is now given as follows : Age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., deck boy, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair with bald patch at back of head, blue eyes. His name is given as I. E. McKnight ; full Christian names are not known, (See Police Gazette. 1938, page 270.)

Dunedin. —28th May last, on warrant for false pretences, R. Newman (name probably fictitious), age about twentyfour, height about 5 ft. 5 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, front teeth decayed ; plausible ; well spoken ; good appearance ; dressed in a grey suit and a light rain-proof coat with belt. Accused obtained the goods described below, value £8 11s., and £2 15s. in money from Henry Gordon Berry, 6 Water Street, by means of a valueless cheque, No. A. 087927, for £8 55., drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Karangahape Road, Auckland, in favour of R. Newman, and signed C. V. Jobling, which he tendered in part payment : ' A gentlemen’s double-breasted grey tweed overcoat, size 3, Invincible brand, lined with art silk; a gentlemen’s black coarse fur felt hat, Silverstone brand; and a gentlemen’s blue wool and cotton scarf, black diamond design. He may be identical with J. Stewart, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 389, and R. N.
