Auckland.- 6th May last, for false pretences, J. Raymond, alias Joseph Lahood, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 81 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, large nose, scar on nose and on right leg ; dressed in a navy-blue suit with doublebreasted coat (no hat) ; quiet speech; smart appearance. Accused obtained a Kodak camera and two films (recovered), value £3, from Ernest Wynne Bedford Le Quesne, chemist, Jervois Road, by falsely representing that he was employed by Mr. Biggs, manager, Tudor Builders, Ltd., on whom he gave an order for payment from his wages. He left his employment with that firm on the 21st April last. The camera was recovered from a second-hand dealer to whom it had been sold for £l. On the 23rd May last the complainant received through the post from J. Raymond £3 in payment for the camera, No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1938 page 106.) 8 WU. ,

Gisborne.On or about the 17th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £1 16s. 6d., the property of John Pearce Williams, 501 Ormond Road, Michael George Nelson, age about eighteen, height 5 ft. 9 in., motor-cycle carrier, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair; dressed in navyblue trousers, grey light sports coat (no bat). Accused, who was employed by John Edelsten, was sent to collect some fowls and deliver them to E. A. Evans, pork butcher, and receive the cartage, 2s. 6d. He received the money for cartage and £1 16s. 6d. for the chickens, and disappeared with the latter money. He is also suspected of theft of a pair of. navy-blue trousers, size 5, the word “Star” written on inside of one pocket; value, £1 12s. 6d., the property of his former employer, John Edelsten, t

Wellington. — On or about the 23rd May last, on warrant for theft of £2 10s., the property of Maurice George Bennett, 67 Vivian Street, Harold Haigh Hardgrave, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 283, and Photographs, 1928, page 17. He is usually well dressed in a dark suit and bowler hat, and probably light raincoat. Accused was a boarder in complainant’s house, and he stole the money from children’s money-boxes. Picton.- Railway-station at Picton broken into {see Police Gazette, 1938, page 338) : The following described man is now suspected of having committed the offence : J. Jeffries, age about twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., fair complexion, round face; wearing dark-grey trousers, dark sweater, and dark felt hat. Greymouth. — l3th May last, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for six weeks in default of paying £2l 155.8 d. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child of whom Ivy Elizabeth Willoughby is the mother, Reuben Charles Wilfred Oarirfig, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, prominent nose ; may be wearing a navy-blue suit (no hat); fond of drink.
