Hamilton.— 29th ultimo, for carnally knowing Joan Witt, Rotokauri, Cyril Nelson Robinson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 441. Accused is the girl’s step-father, and he has been carnally knowing her since she was twelve years of age. No warrant. When arrested on the warrant referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 441, he is to be interviewed regarding this offence. f*// / -INTERVIEWED

Palmerston North. 24th May last, on two warrants of commitment to Palmerston North Prison for three days on each in default of paying £3 2s. fines and costs for failing to carry warrant of fitness in his motor-vehicle and failing to produce his driver’s license, Stanley Walter Burstall, age about forty, height 5 ft. 10 in., salesman, medium build, brown hair, thin features, CLcftfe#. Petone. — Leonard Neiling, alias O’Brien, assault causing actual bodily harm (see Police Gazette, 1938, page 442, and Photographs, 1934, page 34). The victim of the assault, John Joseph Owen, has died from the injuries he received, and special inquiries are to be made for Neiling as a more serious charge may be preferred against him. ARRESTED. 13/7/31.

Wellington. —4th May last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for ten days in default of paying £3 15s. fine and costs for playing a game of chance, Thomas Archibald Hayes, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 348. He has a habit of chewing his finger-nails, has a quick gait, and his legs are inclined to he bowed. Wellington. 2Bth April last, that he may be located and interviewed regarding ;a fire which occurred in his room at Astor House, 141 Willis Street, the property of Rose Rattray, Wilson, age about fifty, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of Scotland, strong build, ruddy complexion, grey hair going bald, blue eyes; dressed, in a blue. suit.. He stayed at complainant’s boardinghouse for about seven weeks, but he left at about 7 p.m. on the 28th April last, and shortly after it was discovered that the bedding in the room he occupied had been placed on the floor and set on fire, being damaged to the amount of £3.
