PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. — February last, from a cubicle at the Mount Eden Baths, the property of GEORGE MAURICE SELLARS, 49 St. Albans Avenue, a gentlemen’s silver oblong Swiss wristlet-watch, back of case slightly turned to fit wrist, Arabic black numerals, imitation silver wrist-strap attached; value, £4. Identifiable.

Auckland. Bth April last, from the rear carrier of a motor-car in a driveway at 92 New Windsor Road, Avondale, the property of HENRY WRIGHT, 4. Parkside Street, St. Heliers, a gentlemen’s coat (recovered) ; and a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold keyless hunting watch, No. 268644 F., Roman numerals, “ Dennison Watch Case Co.” stamped on inside, “ H.W.” in circle on front case, “ H. Wright ” on inside of back case or on back of inner, case, “ Swiss Made ” on movement ; value, £lB. Identifiable. The coat was recovered in a nearby paddock, but the watch had been stolen from it.

Auckland. Between the 7th and 9th ultimo, the shop of STANLEY FRED BENNETT, 572 Karangahape Road, Newton, was broken into and the following stolen : • A large quantity of tobacco ; cigarettes ; and tea of various brands ; and some cheese ; butter ; soft drinks ; sauce, &c.; total value, about £3O. Not identifiable.

Matamata. — the 21st and 26th March last, from the dwelling of JOSEPH POHLEN, Manga Road, a pair of large black Ross binoculars, adjusting screw between eyepieces and each eyepiece has also its own adjusting screw, left eyepiece marked in degrees; value, £23. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to John Hamilton Watt (referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, page 411), who tuned complainant’s piano on the 21st March last. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Cambridge. —24th April last, from the dwelling of VIOLET ELLEN ELSIE REVELL, Monavale, a ladies’ gold ring with large emerald in centre, originally set with two small diamonds on each side of emerald, but one is missing, claw setting ; value, £2O ; a ladies’ gold open-face wristlet-watch, with Arabic numerals, gold link band with clip fastener, contained in a red leather box which also contained a black wristlet ribbon-band with gold fastener; and a gentlemen’s chromium-plated wristlet- with chromium-plated square link band and folding clip : total value, £24 ss. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Charles Arthur William Hansen, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 422, and Photographs, 1933, page 34. He has been interviewed, but no evidence regarding this offence has been obtained. New Plymouth. l3th April last, the property of NOEL TEMPLETON TAILBY, hotel proprietor, and another, £6 in money. Suspicion is attached to Harry Jenkins, age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 11 in., hotel porter and labourer, slight build, fair complexion, wavy fair hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a sports coat, grey flannel trousers, and tan shoes (no hat). He was employed by complainant, but he disappeared from his employment on above date after which it was discovered that £4 had been stolen from the bar till, and £2 from another employee’s clothing. He is also known under the name lan Williams, and his photograph is filed. Among some luggage which he left at an Auckland hotel last year was a berthing slip in the name I. Telkie. New Plymouth.— from a boat-shed on Ngamotu Beach, the property of CHARLES GEORGE BUTCHER, Wickstead Street, a -303 calibre magazine Lee Enfield rifle, painted black, No. 13786 on butt, barrel No. 1944, bolt No. 2403, barrel shortened 4 in., butt shortened \ in,y value, about £2 10s. Identifiable. Wanganui. Between the Ist U 937, and 31st January last, from the dwelling of HOWARD CHARLES EDWARDS, 5 Parkes Avenue, a -22 calibre Iver Johnson seven-chambered revolver with pearl handle ; and a -38 calibre Iver Johnson five-chambered revolver with pearl handle, No. 296 : total value, £6 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —On the 23rd ultimo, the dwelling of HELEN MACLACHLAN, 60 Glen Road, Kelburn, was broken into and the following stolen : A wedding ring (recovered), and a propelling pencil with “ Ainslie Scotch Whisky ” on it: total value, £2 Is. 6d. Suspicion is attached to Two Men (names unknown) —(1) Age about twenty-five, height. about 5 ft. 10 in., good build, florid complexion, curly fair hair; dressed in dark trousers, tight-fitting grey tweed overcoat, and black shoes (no hat). (2) Age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair; dressed in a navy-blue suit (no hat). The recovered ring was found in possession of Leslie Darcy Anderson, taxi-driver, 46 Nelson Street, Petone, who states that he found it in Cuba Street. Finger-prints left by the offenders have established that Anderson did not break into the dwelling. On the same date two men of the description given above were discovered getting through a fanlight of the dwelling of CLARA MARGARET BRADLEY. 15 Rimu Road, Kelburn, but they escaped. Finger-prints have established that they are identical with the offenders who broke into the dwelling of Helen Maclachlan referred to above. They are also suspected of other offences at Lower Hutt. Dunedin. — ultimo, the shop of BERTRAND ROBERT FERGUSON, corner of George and Duke Streets, North Dunedin, was broken into and the following stolen: About £ll in money; and a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands : total value, £27 ss. 6d. Not identifiable.

Dunedin. During the night of the 13th ultimo, the shop of the INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY, Gordon Road, Mosgiel, was broken into and a large quantity of cigarettes of various brands stolen; value, £lO 4s. 4d. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), height about 5 ft. 7 in.; wearing a light-brown overcoat and felt hat. Between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the 14th ultimo he was seen leaving the rear of the premises. He drove away in an Austin 7 sedan motor-car of recent model, dark-blue body with black top, number plates bent. Bicycles.
