PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. the 30th or 31st December last, from the dwelling of CHARLES ROBERTS, 80 Rockfield Road, Ellerslie, a blue bedroom clock, dial 2J in. in diameter, Arabic numerals ; and a gentlemen’s silver key-wind hunting English lever pocket watch, glass broken, Roman numerals, “ Presented by R. H. and J. Pearson to Charles Roberts, March 13th, 1880 ” or “ 1888 ” on inside back case: total value, £3 10s. Watch only identifiable.

Hamilton.— January last, from a dressing-shed in Wellington Road, the property of MORRIS MATTHEW DOYLE, Empire Private Hotel, Erankton Junction, a gentlemen’s fine navy-blue serge suit coat, size 5 or 6, made by Meltzer Bros.; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold oblong 15-jewel Buren Rival wristlet-watch, size Bf, fitted with rolled-gold sturdyfold, “ Oct. 37 T ” scratched on outside back case, wristlet of gold links with ratchet fastener attached: total value, £7 ss. Identifiable.

Hamilton. During the night of the 19th January last, the premises of the UNITED STORES, LTD., Taupiri, were broken into, the office safe opened by means of explosives, and the following stolen: Two cheques (recovered); about £36 in money made up of about three £5 notes, thirteen £1 notes, and some silver; a money-order, No. 7862, for £3, issued at Avondale in favour of L. K. Lovell, Taupiri; a cheque for £6, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, by the New Zealand Insurance Co., in favour of C. W. Jones ; a cheque for £2 4s. 6d., drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Hamilton, in favour of T. Reekie ; a cheque for £3 13s. Bd., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Newton, by C. H. Purcell, in favour of United Stores, Ltd. ; a cheque for £6 7s. lid., drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Hamilton, in favour of United Stores, Ltd. (date altered from January, 1937, to January, 1938) ; £1 worth of postal notes of various denominations ; and nine cheques of which no description is available : total value, £96 11s. Cheques and money-order only identifiable. On the 27th January last one of the recovered cheques, No. 801392, for £6, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Hamilton, by C. H. Slater, in favour of “ Cash,” was recovered from H. A. Burchell, mercer, Te Awamutu, to whom it had been tendered in payment for a pair of brown worsted trousers, size 4, and two pairs of socks, value, £1 Bs. 6d., by a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair; and on the 3rd ultimo the other cheque, No. 47212, for £9 os. 2d., drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, by C. L. Bonham and Co., in favour of R. McCredy, was recovered from L. G. Armstrong, mercer, Te Awamutu, to whom it had been tendered in payment for a blue suit, size 5, and six handkerchiefs, value £3 3s. 4d., by a Man (name unknown), age about thirty-one, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stocky build, dark complexion and hair; dressed in a fawnysuit and brown hat.

Hamilton. — On the 13th instant, the Rotorua Railwaystation, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department) was broken into, the office safe opened by means of explosives, and the following stolen : Four cash-boxes (recovered); £6B 14s. 6d. in money, made up of £54 in notes and the remainder in silver and coppers; a second-class railway-ticket, Rotorua-Waihi, No. 132; a second-class railway-ticket, Rotorua-Frankton Junction, No. 17731 or 17732 ; a cheque, No. H. 71451, for £l4 3s. Taihape. — ultimo, from a room at the rear of the New Taihape Hotel, the property of NEILL EDGAR POWELL, barman, a gentlemen’s double-breasted black worsted suit with white pin-stripes (no vest), fit man 5 ft. 5J in. and of strong build, patent belt attached, Taihape Swimming Club badge on coat; a brown and grey woollen travelling rug, “ Roslyn ” on tag, small hole in one corner, and 17s. in money : total value, £ll 12s. Identifiable except money.

Wellington.— l9th ultimo, from a bath-room in the Waverley Private Hotel, Marion Street,' the property of MARY DAWN MANSON, 121 Ghuznee Street, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold wristlet-watch, No. 76132, silver-coloured dial with “ Louis Kerr, Nelson ” on it, part of numeral “ 7 ” missing, three or four notches on outside case near stem; value, £5. Identifiable.

Wellington— Bth January last, the property of WILLIAM ROBERT MORSE, 212 The Terrace, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold hunting keyless Rotherhams pocket watch, Roman numerals, gold hands, “ W.R.M.” on front of case; and a 9 ct. gold fetter and oval chain, swivel at one end with a Cairngorm stone set in gold attached : total value, £34 10s. Identifiable. On the Bth January last, complainant was drinking in various hotels in the city, and later in the evening he discovered that his watch and chain had been stolen.

Lyttelton.— llth instant, the property of GEORGE HENRY WHITING, trimmer, s.s. “ Tainui,” an 18 ct. gold ring, set with a sapphire and a diamond on each side of it; value, £25. Identifiable. Complainant believes that he lost the ring on the Christchurch-Lyttelton train or at Lyttelton.

Lyttelton. —l3th instant, from a dressing-shed at Corsair Bay, the property of WILLIAM JAMES O’CONNELL, Windsor Hotel, Christchurch, a gentlemen’s white metal square 7-jewel wristlet-watch, Swiss make, Arabic luminous numerals, leather wrist-band attached; value, £3. Identifiable.

Timaru. —15th or 16th January last, from the dwelling of JOSEPHINE RYDER and AGNES CHRISTINA EILEEN SCANNELL, corner of Queen Street and Memorial Avenue, a ladies’ double-breasted brown beaver, overcoat with large brown buttons, slanting pockets, “ Elegance ” on tag at neck; a brown dress, silk finish, long sleeves, two orangecoloured buttons; a pair of ladies’ green flannel slacks ; a ladies’ three-quarter suit, consisting of a fawn coat and skirt with green flecks ; a ladies’ black marocain dressinggown with floral design on back ; a pair of ladies’ coloured sandal shoes with crepe soles, size 6 ; a pair of towels, with “ Timaru Public Hospital maids No. 68 ” on them in ink; a large orange-coloured teddy bear with pale-blue ribbon around neck, “Bi ” in pencil under neck; a pale-green round alarm clock, about 5 in. high, nickel handle on top ; a Comet electric iron, red handle, red and black flex with three-pin plug attached ; a brown and fawn fancy cardboard box with mirror set in lid, containing two pairs of manicure scissors and a nail-file, &c., with green handles; a fibre-cane suit-case about 30 in. long, one hinge broken and repaired with wire ; two white organdy aprons with lace trimmings ; about five aprons, some are of coloured print and some white; a black “ summer breeze ” frock with white collar ; a white tennis frock with green and orange colour around collar; a brown check frock ; a navy-blue skirt; a brown skirt; a blue fugi silk underskirt; a pale-green locknit underskirt ; a coloured blouse with stripes ; a green floral marocain tunic ; a black note-book containing written recipes, may have “ Scanned ”in it; a cookery book, may have “ Scanned” in it; about twelve hanks of fancy cottons ; and some face powder ; scent, &c. : total value, £22 10s. Identifiable.
