PROPERTY STOLEN.

Ponsonby.— Between "the 26th and 29th November last, from Norfolk Street, Ponsonby, the property of the AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL,. a steel Kennedy pipe-cleaner, about 4 ft. long, weight about 20 lb., it is made up of four parts, has two patent springs with two rubber washers between them, a steel loop for a rope on front end, and a spring cleaner on tail end ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 29th and 31st December last, from a motor-car in the garage of FREDERICK WILLIAM GEORGE TAYLOR, 18 Owairaka Avenue, Mount Albert, a camera (recovered); a film, size 116; and a flashlight photograph of a group of men and women: total value, £4 2s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to A. Matthews (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, medium build, fair complexion and hair, full face ; dressed in a grey suit (no hat). The camera was recovered from a second-hand dealer in the city to whom it had been sold on the 31st December last by the man described above.

Auckland. the night of the 2nd ultimo, the warehouse of A. S. PATTERSON, LTD., The Strand, Parnell, was broken into and the following stolen : Twelve new Avon Supreme Standard motor-tires, sizes 600 by 16, wrapped in three brown paper bundles, which are branded “ A.S.P. Auckland,” and numbered respectively 40479, 40490, and 40492 : total value, £6O. Identifiable only if in bundles. Auckland. 3rd ultimo, from the Brunswick Buildings, High Street, the property of JAMES TEMPLETON AND CO., 24 Ballance Street, Wellington, six carpet samples of various designs and colours, 4 ft. 6 in., by 2 ft. 3 in., each has “ T ” and the following numbers respectively, 3/6545, 5/6627, 3/6627, 3/6619, 3/6622, and 3/6673 on linen tag; and a carpet sample of various colours, 2 ft. 3 in. by 1 ft. 6 in., “Plain 24” in indelible ink on it: total value, £lO 10s. Hamilton. —10th January last, from a dressing-shed in Boundary Road, the property of DOUGLAS HAZARD, Varden Road, Te Rapa, a gentlemen’s silver Swiss Rolex wristlet-watch, Arabic numerals, luminous dial, “ 1928 ” scratched on inside back case; a black Waterman fountainpen, gold nib ; a leather purse, envelope shape; and £2 3s. in money : total value, £7 3s. Matamata. —-During the night of 25th January last, from the cow-shed of ALBERT LEONARD SOUTHEE, Walton, a gentlemen’s silver half-hunting keyless watch, No. 132295 ; a brown leather watch-pouch; and a Beatty washingmachine tub, “ Beatty ” stamped on side: total value, £6 19s. 6d. Christchurch. —18th December last, the property of JOHN JAMES, 275 Hereford Street, a brown composition suit-case with two straps, containing a new dark herringbone suit, size 5; a blazer with red and black stripes; a pair of grey flannel trousers ; two silk canoe shirts, sizes 4; one or two blue shirts, size 4 ; a pair of white shoes with rubber soles, size 8 ; a cotton singlet; and about three handkerchiefs : total value, £ls. He became acquainted with complainant while travelling from Wellington on the 17th December last, and he was with complainant when the suit-case and contents were left at Storey’s Hotel, Christchurch, the next day. Not identifiable. ultimo, roe*shop of MAURICE TANGNEY, Balaclava Street, was broken into and the following stolen: An office safe (recovered); £9 in money; and a gentlemen’s Phillips Sports Model racing bicycle, No. 48712/3, fixed wheel, grey tires : total value, £29. Identifiable except money. The safe was recovered some distance from the shop having been opened by means of explosives, and was damaged beyond repair. Beside it were a pick and a sledge-hammer. The sledgehammer had been stolen from the shop of JOSEPH CARLILE ALLISON, blacksmith, Redan Street, about the same time as Tangney’s shop was broken into.
