Woods, false pretences (see Police Gazette, 1936, page 95) : It has been ascertained by the Auckland police that he is identical with George Cecil Horry, and that he is now serving a sentence of three years in Long Bay Prison, Sydney (Australia). Auckland. l4th January last, that he may be located and interviewed regarding the theft of a dark-brown leather bag, size about 16 in.; and a dark-brown imitation leather bag, size about 16 in., containing a quantity of tins and bottles of C.O. Waxshine, boot polish, lustre cream, and mop oil, &c., value £2 9s. (not identifiable), the property of Aubrey Douglas, 154 a Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Fred Morris (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 4 in., native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, scar about 6 in. long on one side of face; dressed in a navy-blue suit and light-grey felt hat; good appearance; well spoken. On the 14th January last complainant gave the accused the above-mentioned property to sell for him on commission, and loaned him the bags to carry it in. He was to report to complainant the same night but he failed to do so.

Auckland. 23rd ultimo, for a breach of his probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Eric William Lindon, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes. On the 13th November, 1931, he was convicted of theft at Invercargill, and admitted to three years’ probation and ordered to make restitution. He has failed to make restitution, and his arrest is desired. The original charge on which he was convicted reads: “On the 17th October, 1931, at Invercargill, did steal one suit-case and contents, value £7 19s. 6d., the property of Thomas Darling. Bd. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, William George Me Isaac, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, heart and clasped hands on left forearm. Hamilton. —13th October, 1937, on warrant for theft of £l, the property of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, Fort Street, Auckland, John F. McMillan, age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 5 in., porter and barman, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair turning grey. He was secretary for the Te Awamutu branch of the union mentioned, and on the 13th October last he received from Richard Seddon Coutts £1 in money in terms requiring him to account for or pay the same to the union, and he fraudulently omitted to do so. There are other charges pending.

AEEESTEU^/^^ Hamilton. 24th December last, on warrant for unlawfully converting to his own use a Rugby motor-car (recovered), the property of Edmund Porangi, Okarea, George Wilson, age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, Maori, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, dark-brown eyes, short flat nose, some front upper teeth missing, scar about size of florin behind right ear with smaller scar below it; dressed in a black or dark-blue serge suit (no hat), but sometimes wears a beret when working ; erect gait. On the 24th December last he unlawfully removed the motorcar from Dudley Terrace, and when it was later involved in a collision at the intersection of London and Barton Streets, the accused disappeared. He may be identical with George Wilson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1933, page 91.

Putaruru. 2lst ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, J. P. O’Keefe, alias Pat O’Keefe, age about thirty-seven, height 6 ft., bushman, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes; slovenly appearance; fond of drink. He obtained a sports coat and a pair of shoes, value £2 Is., from Hugh Kenneth McDermott, mercer, Putaruru, by falsely representing that he was employed by a contractor named Cameron, Te Whetu, and he gave an order on his wages for that amount, but he had left his employment with Cameron on the 20th ultimo. Wing Lee, false pretences (see Police Gazette, 1938, page 197) : It has been ascertained that his correct name is Wong Bing, and that he left this Dominion for China on the ship “ Awatea ” on the B#h ultimo under the . name Wong Gang. fW/Y /4 (7 Foxton. l6th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £3 15s. sd. fine and costs for behaving in a disorderly manner, Rupert John Ashmore, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, mole under chin, scar on left forearm, impediment in speech; dressed in a dark suit and tan shoes (no hat). Wellington. 2oth January last, on warrant for false pretences, David J. Ruthven, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and cook, native of New Zealand, thin build, pale complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, prominent chin; dressed in a shabby blue suit, grey-blue felt hat, and black shoes; slightly stooped. Accused obtained £37 in money from Robert Edward Foothead, 7 Gorge Road, Ngahauranga, by falsely representing that the furniture in the house at that address was his own unencumbered property, whereas he merely held it under the provisions of a hire-purchase agreement, with Kingsway Lt, 78 Lambton Quay.

Nelson. —17th December last, on warrant for forgery, William Clarence Carroll, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 198, and Photographs, 1930, page 46. He has a scar on his left little finger and on back of right hand. On the above-mentioned date he collected the mail of the Rev. Frederick Stickley, Spring Grove, and among it was a letter containing a cheque for £l2, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Palmerston North, in favour of F. Stickley, signed 0. S. Goodrich. Later the same day accused forged complainant’s signature on the cheque and uttered it to Bert Tomlinson, mercer, Hardy Street, and obtained from him a brown tweed overcoat, a pair of grey a grey felt hat, ™ d M Bs. 3d. Clyde. l4th instant, that he may be located and interviewed regarding his having damaged, between the 25th and 31st December last, six insulators, value £5, the property of the Otago Central Electric-power Board, Albert Darken, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and circus hand, native of Australia, slight build, dark complexion, curly dark hair, dark eyes, pimples on face; dressed in a dark coat and grey trousers (no hat). He was in the habit of throwing stones, and the insulators were on poles in the Clyde-Cromwell Gorge near the orchard of Philip Miller where accused was employed at the time the offence was committed. He is also to be induced to refund to the Employment Bureau, Dunedin, 12s. 7d. advanced to him on the 16th December last for his railway fare from Dunedin toClyde ' SO’'3B.
