Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). sth instant, on warrant for being absent from the ship “ Northumberland,” without leave, Edward James Hampton, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., fireman, native of Scotland, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes, woman and flag on left forearm, flag and anchor on right forearm.

Auckland. 7th instant, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for six months in default of paying £461 7s. Id. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Richard Mace Durham, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., hairdresser, native of New Zealand, pale complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on right forearm and palm. The bicycle was stolen on the 13th January, 1935, and was recovered on the 25th May, 1937, from the Malvern Star Cycle Works where it had been sold by a man named R. D. S. B. Simpson, who, when interviewed, stated that he purchased the bicycle from Stewart about November, 1935. When located the file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Auckland.

He is charged as follows : “ On the 21st January, 1938, at Hamilton, with intent to defraud did obtain from John Grant Mackie (service-station attendant), petrol and oil, value 10s. 6d., by falsely representing that a cheque for 10s. 6d. drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Hamilton, in favour of Hamilton Petrol Station, signed J. Accused obtained £5 2s. cash and some handkerchiefs, &c., value 18s., from Bing, Harris, and Co., by means of a valueless cheque for £6, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hastings, and signed Wing Lee. He had an account at the National Bank of New Zealand, Hastings, until February, 1934.
