Auckland. 29th ultimo, that she may be interviewed regarding the maintenance of her child in the care of the Education Department, Frances Victoria Lowe, alias Queenie Lowe, 'age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair, thin features; well dressed. She is a member of the Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union.

Horner (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 4 in., plump build, clear complexion, hair believed to be sandy-coloured, blue eyes, pleasant manner, well spoken; good ' appearance. On the 2nd October last she obtained the goods described below from George Court and Sons, Ltd., Karangahape Road, by falsely representing that she was a daughter of Mrs. B. Horner, Te Aroha, that she was a school-teacher, and that Mrs. B. Horner would pay the account. She may be identical with Woman (name unknown), referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 455 : A silver-plated cruet dish ; a silver-plated cake dish ; three pairs of ladies’ shoes; a cotton figured frock; a floral linen frock; an ensemble frock of - backed crepe material of navy colour, and marked Made in Vienna”; a white crepe blouse; two striped silk blouses; a ladies’ black straw hat trimmed with lilies; a ladies’ navy toque hat; Nu-Venus corsets ; Modaire brassiere ; a three-piece laddaloc celanese set — scanties, and vest of peach colour; a ladies’ wool suit; a shirt; a ladies’ suit; two ladies’ ties ; a singlet; two pairs of trunks; three bottles of lotion; powder ; perfume ; a manicure set on stand ; a five-piece pink toilet-set; three pairs of hose; two pairs of ladies’ gloves ; three ladies’ handbags ; two pairs of scissors ; a set of curlers; and a pair of wavers : total value, £43. Identification dopbtful. No warrant.

Auckland. —25th ultimo, on warrant for that at Sydney on the 3rd ultimo, they did secrete themselves and go to sea on board the ship “ Wanganella ” without having first obtained the consent of the master or other person having authority to give such consent(l) Maurice Archibald Donald Carlisle, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, scar on left ring finger ; dressed in dark;trousers and coat, light-blue shirt, and sand-shoes (no hat). (2) Kenneth William Le Sueur, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 9 in., bakers’ apprentice, native of .Australia, medium build, fresh compexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, portion of-left forefinger amputated; dressed in dark trousers and.coat, lightblue shirt and sand-shoes (no hat). On the Bth. ultimo they were brought before the Court for stowing away, and they were remanded to the 21st ultimo conditional upon their remaining in the care of the Salvation Army. They disappeared from the Salvation Army Home three days later.

Auckland. 4th December last, for forgery and uttering, Frank Taylor, alias C. Jones, age about thirty-nine, height about 5 ft. 7 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, large nose. At Whangarei on the 3rd December, 1937, a man giving the name C. Jones, remitted 10s. by money-order telegram to Frank Taylor, Central Post Office, Auckland. Next evening a man giving the name Frank Taylor, booked a room in the Market Hotel, Auckland, l to the 7th December, and in payment he uttered.a money- ’ order telegram for £6 10s. The licensee, Henry Charles Parry, accepted it, and later the latter’s bank discovered that the telegram had been altered from “ ten shillings ” to “six pounds ten shillings.” He may be identical with Raymond Morris, alias- Bert Morris, referred to/in Police Gazette, 1937; page 263. Smith, (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build with broad shoulders, fair complexion, brown hair; dressed in a navy-blue suit (no hat); soft speech; quiet manner; untidy appearance. Accused obtained £2 6s. cash, and benzine value 14s. from John Harold Barton, service-station proprietor, Onehunga, by means of a valueless cheque for £3 on the Bank of New Zealand, Onehunga, signed J. Smith. He was driving a blue roadster Rover motor-car, and he obtained two blank cheque-forms Nos. 185292 and 185293 from complainant, one of which is referred to above, and with the other, which he filled in for £5, payable to S. Brown and signed J. Smith, he attempted to obtain £5 from Elizabeth Nicholson, Criterion Hotel, Otahuhu. The motor-car referred to may he one which was sold on the 6th ultimo to Stanley Arnold Nicholson, and the photograph of a man of the same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 641, and Photographs, page 29, has been identified as the man who bought the car. This car is subject to a hire-purchase agreement. On the 28th ultimo a Man (name unknown) attempted to sell the motorcar to Advance Cars, Ltd., Te Awamutu, and the car is being held by that firm, from whom the man obtained two blank cheque-forms. He may be identical with Stanley Arnold Nicholson, referred to above, and when located he, to be interviewed regarding the offences. JNo warrant. / /

Auckland. — 10th December last, for false* pretences, John Godfrey McArthur, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 37, and Photographs, 1929, page 30. On the 10th December last a man giving the name J. McCarthy, called at the warehouse of Cooke and Co., wine and spirit merchants, Albert Street, and obtained from the accountant, Kenneth George Eric Bush, ten dozen bottles of beer, two bottles of cocktail, and two bottles of port wine, value £8 11s. lid. by falsely representing that he was attached to the shore staff at Devonport Naval Base. The photograph of John Godfrey McArthur has been identified as that of the accused, and he is to be interviewed. No warrant.

Auckland.— l3th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Dorothy Baker, and children, Ireland Road, Panmure, Rowland Coombo Baker, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 9 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, dark-brown eyes, large nose and ears, full lips, scar on forehead, scars on legs; usually dressed in grey trousers and light-fawn sports coat, and wears a wristlet-watch with his name on back; well spoken. Napier. 2Bth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Selwyn George Karris, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 27, and Photographs, 1931, page 30 ; may be dressed in a grey Petone sports coat, light-grey worsted sports trousers, and grey worsted coat-shirt (no hat),. He is charged as follows : “On the 28th January, 1938, at Napier, with intent to defraud did obtain from the B.C. Clothing Co. £3 Is. sd. in money and goods, valued at £4 6s. 7d., by falsely representing that a cheque for £7 Bs., drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Napier, in favour of D. B. Clarke, and signed J. Parsons, was a good and valid order for that amount.” Accused stayed with J. Parsons, carrier, Hastings Street, for a week preceding the commission of the offence, and the cheque referred to above is one of two cheques, Nos. Y. 22111 and Y. 22112, which were stolen from Parsons’s cheque-book on the day the offence was committed.

Waipukurau. —lst instant, for attempted theft from the office of the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board, Ruataniwha Street, Man (name unknown), age about thirty-eight, height about 5 ft. 9 in., medium build, dark hair going bald; dressed in a navy-blue suit and tan shoes (no hat). About 12.15 a.m. on the Ist instant a night watchman saw the man described above loitering in a right-of-way about 200 yds. from the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board’s Office, and at 1.45 a.m. the watchman discovered that an attempt had been made to open the safe in the office mentioned by means of explosives. Gelignite, fuse, and a detonator were found near the safe on a sheet of writing-paper which was headed, “ Midland Hotel, Masterton, Limited.” No warrant.

Wellington. —23rd July last, that a summons may be served upon him for being found on the licensed premises of the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel during prohibited hours, Thomas Knight, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 6) in., labourer and miner, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, pug nose, heart and.ategi&'on back of right hand, clasped hands on left fojntg&iryring on left middle finger. Wharf (Wellington).— 2oth ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the ship “ Rotorua,” Gerald Talbot, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 9 in., steward, native of England, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes.

Wharf (Wellington). 27th ultimo, on warrant for being absent from the ship “ Kaimata ” without leave, James Edward Archbold, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman, light-brown hair, grey eyes.

Kaikoura. 4th instant, that he may be located and interviewed regarding the theft of a letter containing a £5 note, No. IK. 786134, the property of Kiriona Hamaira Faulkner, care of Public Works Department, Aniseed, William Gardiner Ross, alias Barney Ross, age about thirty-five, height about ft. 9 in., labourer, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, cast in one eye; usually dressed in a brown suit; slovenly appearance; fond of drink. On the 17th June, 1937, complainant gave accused a letter addressed to “ Miss Mary Evans, Box 10, Greenmeadows, Napier ” (containing the £5 note) to register at the Mangamaunu Post Office the next morning. A few days later Faulkner asked Ross if he had posted the letter, and was informed that he had. When interviewed later accused stated that he had posted the letter without registering it, and subsequent inquiries showed that the letter had not been registered at the post office. When located the file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Christchurch, before he isMteryiewecL No warrant.

Accused who stayed at the United Service Hotel from the 10th to the 21st September, 1937, obtained from the manager of the hotel, Bernhard Charles Boulton, credit to the amount of £2l 2s. 6d. by fraud. He may be identical with Colin Patrick Burns, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, pages 665 and 842. No warrant.

Christchurch.— ultimo, that he may be located and his address supplied to the Pensions Department, Christchurch, George E. J. Nickolls, alias Edward Francis Nicholls, referred to in Police Gazette, 1934, page 28, and Photographs, 1914, page 48.

Oamaru. 2sth ultimo, on two warrants for failing to maintain his wife, Edith Kathleen Dobson, and child, 58 Tees Street, Albert Klimt Dobson, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., carter and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, large nose, bluegrey eyes, long eyelashes, and long lingers; dressed in grey flannel trousers and sports coat, or a navy-blue suit. Arrears to 7th December last, £3. About two months ago he left Oamaru accompanied by Mrs. Annie Brown, and they travelled in the latter’s Willy’s Knight motor-car, registration No. 146,192. When arrested he is to be brought before the Court nearest to place of arrest.

Dunedin. —12th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 17s. 6d. fine and costs for drunkenness, James Bernard MacDonald, alias Bernard Aloysious O’Donnell, age forty, height 5 ft. 10 in., marine engineer and seaman, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, tombstone, scroll, “Mary,”-and dragon on right forearm, “ True Love, ” “ Millie,” pierced hearts, and woman’s head on left forearm, scar on forehead, and on left elbow.
