PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. 4th October last, the property of HENRY THORNTON REDDELL, 34 Bassett Road, Remuera, a black imitation leather violin case, red inside, containing three bows; and a tan-coloured violin, repair in woodwork where neck joins body, rest for chin : total value, £l3 10s. Identifiable. Complainant left the violin and case in a railway-carriage.

Auckland. 22nd November last, from the -dwelling of EVA ORMEROD, 41 Wallace Street, Herne Bay, a ladies’ brown leather purse, about 10 in. by 6 in., envelope shape, inner compartment fitted with zip fastener; a leather purse about 3 in. by 2 in., containing about 15s. in money, and a ladies’ 18 ct. gold open-face keyless old-fashioned dress watch, about 1 in. in diameter, sides and back chased, Roman numerals, may have “ E.G.” on outside back case : total value, £6 15s. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to a young Man (name unknown), height about 5 ft. 10 in., who was wearing a navy-blue suit and a hat. He was seen to reach through a window and snatch the abovementioned property from a table. Francis Halligan, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 65, and Photographs, 1937, page 26, has been interviewed regarding the offence, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —-3rd ultimo, from a motor-car in the garage of ERIC THORNE GILLETT, 16 Paratai Drive, Orakei, a motor-car six-valve superheterodyne Crosley radio-set, No. 1400451 on chassis, grey bakelite case, about 12 in. by 6 in. by 6 in., 5 watts output, automatic volume control; and about ten gallons of petrol: total value, £27 10s. Radio only identifiable.

Auckland. On the Bth or 9th November last, from a sleeping-car on the Limited Express between Wellington and Auckland, the property of CHARLES EVERIST HARRISON, Epsom, a black fountain-pen (may be Swan make), wide gold band, with “ C.E.H.” on it, fine gold nib; and a silver cigarette-case which holds eighteen cigarettes, fancy embossed work on one side, “ C.E.H.” on it: total value, £3 15s. Identifiable.

Auckland. 2lst November last, from clothing in a cubicle at the Shelly Beach , Baths, the property of DAVID ALEXANDRIA BALLOCH, Duncan Street, Invercargill, a gentlemen’s silver old open-face key-wind pocket watch, black Roman numerals, ten-pointed star on dial, secondhand missing, “ Butts ” on inside, circle on back for monogram ; and a cheap watch-chain with watch-key attached: total value, £lO. Identifiable.

Auckland. On the 11th or 12th ultimo, the warehouse of IRVINE AND STEVENSON, LTD., 9 Hepburn Street, Freeman’s Bay, was broken into and the following stolen: A cash-box; some cheques; and two knives (recovered); £5 10s. 9d. in money; and some pickles and preserves: total value, £55 19s. 4d. On the 13th ultimo the recovered property was found in the shelter shed at the Napier Street School.

Auckland.— 2sth November last, the property of MAVIS RUBINA GAMMAN, 302 Jervois Road, Herne Bay, a ladies’ chromium-plated keyless open-face Movado wristlet watch, No. 19587, repair No. R. 25757 scratched on inside back case, Arabic numerals, the numerals 3,6, 9, and 12 being larger than the others, grey snakeskin cord attached; value, £lO. Identifiable. Complainant lost the watch in a tram-car. a* /A„a/W/ f

Hamilton.— 3oth October last, the property of JOHN EDWARD CIIITTY, River Road, a gentlemen’s light-grey gabardine overcoat, fit man 5 ft. 8 in., “ K.G.H.” worked on inside of shoulders, two side pockets without flaps ; a girl’s brown Donegal tweed overcoat, fit girl aged fourteen, brown lining, brown belt; a steel tape measure in case, originally 66 ft. long, but a few inches are now missing ; and a 25 ft. steel tape measure in nickel case, automatic spring which opens winder : total value, £l2. Identifiable. The above-mentioned property was in complainant’s motorcar, which was unlawfully converted by Maxwell Ernest Butler, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 16, and when arrested he stated that he threw the property on the roadside between Te Kuiti and the junction of the road to Waitomo. The motor-car has been recovered.

Matawai. Between the 26th October last and sth ultimo, from the hut of ROBERT WILSON GRAHAM, Te Wera Road, a -22 calibre Mossberg repeating rifle, No. H-4975, fitted with aperture sight; a hardwood mall, 4/ in. iron ring on each end, no handle ; a hurricane lamp ; and an old brown Le Roy oilskin coat, fit man 6 ft., hooks at front: total value, £5. Identifiable.

Rahotu. Between May, 1936, and about 19th October last, from the dwelling of THOMAS WAREHAM MORRIS, Tataraimaka, a -22 calibre single-shot Winchester rifle, model 1902, deep slanting cut on one side of stock; value, 15s. Identifiable.

Waipawa.— NElL HAMILTON STRATFORD’S wallet, &c., stolen (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 81) : The wallet without the contents was found on top of a cistern in a lavatory at the Empire Hotel on the 17th instant.

Taihape. On the 30th or 31st ultimo, from a motor-car in the garage of Messrs. Barton and Co., the property of JAMES LEUCHARS, manager of Tolley and Son, Wellington, a 6-16 Kodak Vollenda Junior camera, No. 755758, threespeed shutter, 1/25, 1/50, and 1/100 time and brief time, 6-3 lens, fitted with self-timer for including photograph of oneself, film in camera, the last two negatives of which were taken near Mangaweka, one of a bridge and the other of the township; a pound Temple Bar tobacco-tin with some tobacco; and three or four cigars: total value, £7 ss. Identifiable except cigars.

During the night of sth November last, the shop of RICHARD MAUTNER, jeweller, 15 Kent Terrace, was broken into and the following stolen : Thirteen gentlemen’s watches (recovered); two ladies’ chromiumplated octagon-shaped Titan wristlet-watches, black Arabic numerals ; three ladies’ rolled-gold Titan wristlet-watches, two are octagon-shaped and the other is round; two gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong Roamer wristlet-watches, luminous dial and hands; three gentlemen’s gold luminous Titan wristlet-watches, one cushion-shaped, one oblong, and the other oval; six gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong wristlet- ; a ladies’ chromium-plated Roamer wristletwatch, bracelet of brilliants attached; a 9 ct. gold ladies’ Swiss wristlet-watch, fifteen jewels, chain mesh wrist-band attached; a Cyma gentlemen’s wristlet-watch, oblong shaped, may have luminous dial and hands or black hands and numerals with white dial; a rolled-gold gentlemen’s wristlet-watch, cushion shaped, luminous dial and hands; six chromium-plated gentlemen’s wristlet-watches, some have luminous dials and hands and others have white dials with black hands and numerals ; a small 9 ct. gold ladies’ wristletwatch, oval shaped, blue dots around edge, silver-coloured dial with black hands and numerals, rolled-gold expanding bracelet attached; two ladies’ rolled-gold Vidar wristletwatches, white dials, black hands and numerals, rolled-gold expanding wrist-bands attached; a gentlemen’s gun-metal Omega pocket watch, white dial with black hands and Roman numerals, may have name of some Dunedin jeweller on dial; a Novoris gentlemen’s oblong wristlet-watch, chromiumplated, luminous dial and hands; a gentlemen’s silver Wyler wristlet-watch, white dial with black hands and numerals, “3252 R.M.” scratched inside on back portion of case; a ladies’ 15-jewel chromium-plated wristlet-watch, white dial with black hands and numerals, hands differ slightly in design; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold wristlet-watch, oblong shape with luminous dial and hands; a Firago gentlemen’s wristlet-watch, uncommon type, chromium-plated, oblong shape ; a small Roamer gentlemen’s chromium-plated wristlet-

watch, oblong shape with square ends, leather wrist-strap attached; a Kienzle ladies’ rolled-gold wristlet-watch ; a Medano ladies’ narrow oblong-shaped wristlet-watch ; three Jago ladies’ chromium-plated wristlet-watches of round shape; a Meda ladies’ chromium-plated wristlet-watch of round shape with chromium-plated wrist-band attached; nine rolled-gold and chromium-plated ladies’ wristlet-watches ; fifteen ladies’ and gentlemen’s rolled-gold and chromiumplated wrist-bands for watches, non-expanding and of assorted designs. Identifiable.

Blenheim. l9th ultimo, from clothing in a cubicle at the public baths, the property of EDWARD ARCHIBALD HILL, care of 0. Finlay, Market Street, a gentlemen’s silver small old hunting Waltham watch, If in. in diair eter, Roman numerals on dial and case, “ F.R.” scratched on back ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Christchurch. — About August, 1936, the property of EDWARD ALBERT WENMOTH, care of Booth McDonald, 23 Torrington Road, a -22 calibre five-chambered Harrington and Richardson revolver, No. 338925 ; value, 15s. Identifiable. It is thought that complainant lost the revolver while transferring his effects from one dwelling to another.

Dunedin. —On the 31st October last, the dwelling of JOHN MURRAY MATHESON, 134 Caversham Valley Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A green Kebe crepe frock with brown collar, square front, pleated skirt, narrow cuffs ; a pair of pink silk cami-knickers trimmed with white lace, ribbon shoulder-straps ; a pair of ladies’ sponge cream kid gloves ; a pair of ladies’ brown nappa gloves, size 6f ; a green guest towel with face cloth to match, rosebud borders; twelve gentlemen’s Pyramid handkerchiefs, blue and fawn striped borders; a square bluishgreen stud box, painting of Dutch children on it; a gilt oval jewel case, about 3 in. long, four legs ; a string of imitation graduated pearls, fastens with round spring catch; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold band ring, set with blue stones in deep setting, “ M.T.” on each side ; two crystal dishes of floral trail pattern ; a condiment set of salt and pepper shaker and mustard pot each representing an elephant, and mustard pot has representation of native boy on top of it; a kingfisher ornament in delf ware of natural colouring, on brown trunk with holes in sides for flowers; and a quart-size glass decanter with spike-head stopper ; and some face powder and perfume; total value, £l4 4s.
