Napier. —lst instant, that he may be located and interviewed regarding a revolver which he delivered to Clarence Kennedy Thomson, alias Edward Thompson, (referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 370), who was found fatally shot on the 27th April last, Cecil James Lawton, referred to in Police Gazette. 1937, page 227. , f

Palmerston North. —A warrant has been issued for the arrest of C. Winter on the following charge: “At Waituna West, near Feilding, on the 19th May, 1937, with intent to defraud, did obtain from Charles Hamilton Claude Leicester, the sum of £264, by means of a certain false pretence, to wit, by falsely representing that he had goods, valued at £384, in bond in Customs at Wellington, landed from the steamer Eastern Star, and that the said money was required to release the said goods from bond.” Description : Age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 4 in., thin build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair brushed back, sharp nose, clean shaved, thin face; dressed in a slateygrey suit with double-breasted coat, black patent leather shoes, and felt hat. He was in possession of a dark sedan motor-car with square top. On the 17th ultimo, accused called on complainant at the latter’s farm and represented that he was a purser on the steamer “ Eastern Star ” then in Wellington, and that he had brought a quantity of goods out with him including a rug for Mr. Lowry, Taihape, who he said was away at the Coronation. Accused produced a Customs duty sheet on which were shown “ Port of Wellington ” and “ Eastern Star ” as well as “ Persian rug, wireless set, television set, Diesel engine,” and the name “ E. Winter.” He said these goods were in Customs at Wellington, having been landed from the “ Eastern Star.” He then requested £l2O to clear the goods, and complainant gave him a cheque for that amount, payable to “ C. Winter.” Accused promised to refund the money in eight days. On the 19th ultimo he returned and produced to complainant a carpet which he said was the one he had brought out for Mr. Lowry, and that he would write to the latter and get him to send complainant £2OO and collect the carpet. He then showed Mr. Leicester the Customs sheet previously referred to which was marked “ Paid £SO tax on Persian carpet. Balance to be paid in full, £334,” after which he requested complainant to advance him the balance owing on the goods in Customs. Complainant 'gave him a cheque for £264, and he promised to return within twelve days and refund the money. The cheques were drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Feilding, and were cashed at that bank on the 17th and 19th ultimo respectively. The photograph of Robert Thomas Howden, alias James Henderson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1921, page 4, has been identified by the cashier at the bank, and by the complainant, as that of the accused. Wellington. A. J. Crosby, theft of £2O, the property of Louise Dennette (See Police Gazette, 1937, page 398). A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of Reginald Bidgood alias Allan Edward Ross, alias Allen Harvey, alias Arthur John Crosby, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 651, and Photographs, 1932, page 50, charging him with the offence. On the 3rd instant Bidgood was located by the Auckland police, but he denied the offence, and on the advice of his solicitor refused to enter into details or give a written statement. He was, therefore, not arrested, but as his description and dress accorded with that of A. J. Crosby (save that he was wearing a white scarf), a warrant has been issued for his arrest. *7 "7

He is suspected of theft of postal notes from letters addressed to Market Gardens, Ltd., Christchurch, and he is to be interviewed.
