SPECIAL NOTICE.
New Plymouth. — On the 26th ultimo, a pair of crutches and three pairs of socks were found on the foreshore between the railway-station and the baths. The socks had never been worn, and it has been ascertained that they were purchased from Messrs. Broome and Lynch, clothiers, New Plymouth, on the previous evening by a man described as follows : Age about- thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fresh complexion, black hair inclined to be curly; wearing a dark-brown suit, soft double collar, and tie; had both legs but was using crutches. A railway porter saw a man on the New Plymouth Railway-station at 11 p.m. on the 25th ultimo. This man was carrying a small parcel and had crutches. Description of crutches found : 4 ft. 1$ in. long, padding on top covered with dark-brown linoleumcloth, shod with circular black rubbers extending 3 in. up legs, wooden hand-grips inserted in forks, bottoms of forks bound with dark-brown linoleum-cloth, black paint-mark on under side of one arm-rest. It is feared that a tragedy has occurred, and inquiries are to be made at hospitals, &c., concerning men known to be cripples, with a view of locating the owner. Any information regarding this matter is to be forwarded to the Inspector of Police, New Plymouth.
