PERSONS WANTED

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —18th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Waimana” (1) Charles Walter Noon, age twenty, height 6 ft., trimmer, native of England, slight build, dark hair, grey eyes. (2) Samuel Levine, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 9 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, dark-brown hair, brown eyes.

Otorohanga. —24th December last, on warrant for breaking and entering the dwelling of Robert George Inglis, and stealing property, value £ll 155., Howard de Grut, age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair, front teeth very noticeable when he laughs, greasy skin ; usually dressed in a blue suit. During the temporary absence of complainant on the night of the 24th December last his dwelling was broken into and the following property stolen : A tin of Players cigarettes ; coppers and threepenny pieces, value 10s.; a gentlemen’s gold hunting Waltham watch, gold worn off part of winding stem ; a bottle of wine ; a silver watch-chain with twisted links ; a gold medal with raised shield on which is “ 1929,” and on reverse side of medal is engraved “ Presented to R. G. Inglis, from the Coromandel Rugby Union ” ; and a gold signet ring, which has been recovered. This ring was recovered in a pawnshop in Auckland, having been pawned by a man giving the name Leo Roberts, alias “Shorty,” who,is believed to be identical with de Grut. .7 p 7& / 7 /IStx&tfed.

Wanganui.— John Henry Sewell Nisbet (unlawfully converting a motor-car), (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 167) : A warrant for his arrest has been issued on the following charge : “ On or about the 2nd February, 1937, at Wanganui, did unlawfully and without colour of right but not so as to be guilty of theft thereof, within the meaning of the Crimes Act, 1908, convert to his own use one motor-car, value £260, the property of Frank Copeland Hutchison.”

Palmerston North. —9th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for driving a motor-vehicle across a railway-crossing when a train was approaching, Alfred Philip Plumb, age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., insurance agent, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, small moustache, round features. , Q^jcC l *7“

Wellington. —7th September last, that he may be located and interviewed, R. Martin, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 6£ in., labourer and cook, native of New Zealand, good build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, medium nose, left wrist broken, middle finger-joint enlarged, mole above right breast, tip of right forefinger injured. He was engaged by Hugh Douglas, 4 Duncan Terrace, Kilbirnie, to paper part of a house, and received £3 with which to purchase paper, but he disappeared with the money. Wellington. — lst instant, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for three months in default of paying £39 14s. 9d. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Dennis Blake, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 4 in. french polisher, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. Wellington. —6th instant, for indecently assaulting Shirley Alison Pearl Middleton (age eight years and a half), 21 Whaui Street, Man (name unknown), age about twentyfive, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, dark complexion, black hair, small mouth, two upper front teeth close together and twisted forming a point ; dressed in grey flannel trousers, brown check coat, grey felt hat with black band, and white shirt with blue stripes. On the Town Belt near Connaught Terrace accused bound and gagged the child, carried her into the bushes, and indecently assaulted her. At the same place on the 12th December last a man of the same description committed a similar offence on Norma Russell (age ten), 160 Washington Avenue. No warrant.
