PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland.—Between the Ist and 9th July last, a cabin on the scow “ Samoa ” was broken into and the following, the property of EDWARD THOMAS GLOVER, stolen: Two shirts (recovered); a gentlemen’s double-breasted overcoat, fawn spots in material, “ Burwick ” on it, each side pocket slightly torn; a brown herringbone singlebreasted suit coat, “ Broadway ” on inside ; a pair of brown shoes, size 7, “ Offers, Ltd., Queen Street ” may be on them ; twelve grey and brown ties; a white fugi silk shirt, size 3 ; and a grey striped shirt: total value, £8 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Herbert Thomas, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes; a halfcaste Maori; dressed in brown striped trousers, tan shoes, and navy-blue coat. Complainant saw him on the scow on the 31st July. He admitted the offence, and promised to return the property that day, but he failed to do so. A few days later the recovered shirts were found in a room which he had occupied at 33 Union Street, Freeman’s Bay.

Auckland.— On or about the Ist October last, from a trunk on his ship, the property of DENNIS EDWARD GRANTHAM, ship’s officer, a brown leather attache-case, 18 in. long, value, 155., containing a Second Mate’s Board of Trade certificate, No. 33299, issued at London on 14th November, 1932; a Government Life Insurance policy, No. 331434; an A.M.P. Auckland^—lst December last, from a private wharf at Albany, the property of GREY KINGSLEY PREBBLE, a 10-ft. centre-board clinker-built dinghy with white bottom and brown sides, homemade oars, mast, and sail; value, £lB. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Raynal Alfred MacDonald, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 761. It was customary for him to use the dinghy at times, and when he left Albany on the Ist December last it is thought that he took it away. / , /\. A- ■

Auckland. 24th November last, the property of* lAN HAMILTON PITCAITHLEY, a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered); a pair of gentlemen’s black glace shoes, size 7 ; and a white-handled razor, with “ Wedge, Salamander ” on it, and figure of crocodile on handle : total value, £lO 6s. 6d. Suspicion is attached to Edward Woods (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., seaman, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, black bushy hair ; dressed in a blue suit (no hat); Cockney accent. The property was stolen from a bedroom in the Clarendon Hotel, and the overcoat was pawned by a man of the description given above.

Auckland. —During the night of 15th October last, from the garage of CLEAVE McKELLAR RICH WHITE, 27 Rahiri Road, Mount Eden, a black Airmate radio-set for use in motor-car (believed to be five-valve set); seventeen gallons of benzine; a nickel-plated extension lamp, wire shield for globe, about 8 ft. of extension flex wire; a five-gallon oil drum, painted green, with “ Speedwell ” in yellow letters on it, brass tap soldered on at side; and two two-gallon Shell benzine tins, painted red : total value, about £l9 15s. Radioset and oil drum only identifiable.

Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Wilfred Henry Arnold Cronin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 673, and Photographs, page 2. He stayed with a man named Jenkinson, who occupied the garage from which the property was stolen. Watch identifiable. Suspicion is attached to John Fogarty, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Featherston. — ultimo, from near the main road, the property of PETER HABIB, a gentlemen’s emerald-green blazer with gold facings, “ W.8.C.” on top pocket, two side pockets, containing a pocket-knife, tobacco, &c., and a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting Urania watch, No. 1010244, “P. Habib on inside, “ P.H.” in scroll on front; a 9 ct. gold double watch-chain, small links; and a l|d. silverpiece, dated “ 1838 ” : total value, £l6. Watch identifiable.
