Pidgeon and Co., tire distributors, 307 Upper Queen Street, by means of a forged £5 note, No. K. 809329. He is suspected of thirteen similar offences. The tire referred to above would fit an old model tourer Dodge or Studebaker motor-car. He left with the firm of Pidgeon and Co. an old Firestone Oldfield tire, 32 X 4, which is now in possession of the police. He may be in possession of the following articles which he obtained from various firms by means of forged £5 notes: A ladies’ small light-red straw hat turned up at back ; a box of fifty Cuban Queen cigars; a child’s leather school-bag with strap; a ladies’ leather shopping-bag with zip fastener; a pair of ladies’ Irene shoes, size 6, laced and punched vamps; a pair of ladies’ Adrian hose, light-tan shade with red line round top ; a brass Buddha, 8 in. high and 8 in. across base; a plain white straw hat, two blue flowers and ribbon round crown; two pairs of ladies’ fawn Betty hose; and a set of chessmen of boxwood and ebony with green bases. He had an old half-ton medium grey motor-truck without sides, wooden cab, artillery wheels, compartment under floor boards at rear for spare wheel, tires 32 X 4. It appeared to have been converted from an old model motor-car, similar to an old model Buick, Dodge, or Studebaker. Te Awamutu. llth instant, for unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-car, value, £2OO, the property of the Lister Separator Co., Auckland and Hamilton, Harry Fielding, age twenty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 100, and Photographs, 1934, page 61). The car which was taken from a street in Te Awamutu during the night of the ilth instant, contained five gallons of benzine, parts of a separator, a Staybriti stainless steel separator bowl, a demonstration spindle, and an order-book. Description of car: A 1936 model two-door saloon Morris, 8 h.p., red body with black top, registration No. 81 v 256. Near to the spot from which this car was taken there was left another car of similar description. It is a rental car, the property of J. Pomeroy and Co., Hamilton, and was hired from that firm on the 11th instant by a man who gave the name A. H. Cleal, and who produced a driver’s license, No. 1770, issued at Masterton in the name of Aussie Harry Cleal. The photograph of Harry Fielding, referred to above, has been identified as that of Cleal. A small jemmy was found on a desk in the office the door of which apparently had been forced open with it. There was nothing stolen, but some damage was caused by fire as a result of the explosion.
