MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

The Minister in Charge of the Police (the Hon. P. Fraser) wishes all officers and members of the Force, and their wives and families, a thoroughly happy and enjoyable Christmas and a good and prosperous New Year. He looks forward to a year in which the efficiency of the Force will not only be maintained at its present high standard, but will be increased, and in which the services of the men who make the Force what it is will be acknowledged by considerable improvement in the conditions of the service.

■ ' t. f Return of Persons Summarily Convicted at Magistrates’ Courts. (1) Form “Police 94”—“Return of Persons Summarily convicted but not sent to Gaol”— been amended, and in future particulars of persons convicted at Magistrates’ Courts but not sent to gaol, and those convicted at Magistrates’ Courts and sentenced to imprisonment for 14 days or over, shall be entered on the same return for publication in the Police Gazette. Particulars of offenders on whom a disqualification from driving has been imposed under the provisions of the Motor-vehicles Act are to be included on the return, irrespective of the sentence passed. The return is to be furnished weekly. (2) When it is found that a description varies from that previously recorded in the Police Gazette in respect of the same offender an explanatory note is to be made on the return. (3) The last Police Gazette reference and photographic reference (if any) of each offender are to be quoted on the

Motor Allowance and Relieving Duty

When it is necessary to send a Constable to a station to perform relieving duty during the absence on leave or for any other cause of the officer in charge of the" station or other member who is paid an annual car allowance, care should be taken to send a man who has a motor-car. The relieving officer will draw the car allowance payable at the station during the period he is relieving. The allowance is to be computed as follows : for each day’s relieving l/365th of the annual allowance. Such amount will be deducted from the official ordinarjly" drawing the allowance and paid to the relieving offigefi In the event of the transfer of an officer who is a car allowance, the relieving officer will be paid the allowance allotted to the station until such time as a successor is appointed. s' When a sub-district is during the absence of the officer in charge to be supervised by the officer in charge of an adjoining sub-district and the latter is-in receipt of a car allowance in respect of his own sub-district, the question of any additional allowance payable is to be submitted to this office for decision. pud.
