INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Melbourne (Australia). At 10.30 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo, at Parkville, Two Men (names unknown), one armed with a revolver and the other carrying a torch, accosted Police Superintendent Brophy and fired at him four shots which inflicted serious injuries. The bullets used were •45 calibre lead bullets of Belgian make with black powder. Description of offenders — Age about thirty-seven, height about 6 ft., good build ; dressed in a dark suit; had white handkerchief tied round lower portion of face, and carried a revolver. (2) Age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in., good medium build; dressed in a dark suit; had a white handkerchief tied around lower portion of face and carried a torch. About 9.45 p.m. on the 29th ultimo, Mr. Chandler, dairy-produce merchant, was held up in Sydenham Street by a man armed with a revolver (another man remaining in a motor-car), who fired three shots at Mr. Chandler and then stole £SO from him. The man who did the shooting is described as : Age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 11 in., thin build and features, high forehead; dressed in a dark suit and hat, and had a navy silk scarf over the lower portion of his face. The bullets used were -45 calibre lead bullets, and similar to those used by Superintendent Brophy’s assailants. If in New Zealand there are arrested any offenders armed with a -45 calibre revolver, an urgent communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 36/718.)

Sydney (Australia). —A warrant has been issued for the arrest of George Bond (referred to in New Zealand Police Gazette, 1936, page 257), charging him that at Sydney between the Ist January, 1935, and 31st July, 1935, he conspired with Walston William Tustian. to defraud Frederick Owen Furner and others of divers large sums of money.
