They were on remand for theft, and escaped from the exercise-yard at the police lock-up. . /

Eeatherston. ultimo, on warrant for forgery, Raymond Ronald Dale, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, scar from one wrist to elbow; dressed in a brown suit (trousers often of a shade different from coat), light felt hat, and tan shoes. Accused, who was employed by W. J. Houghton, farmer, Te Moana, left his employment on the 25th ultimo, when he was given a letter addressed “ Mrs. W. Johnson, 95 Pirie Street, Wellington,” which he was requested to post. The letter contained a £1 note and a cheque for £5 65., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Featherston, payable to order of D. Johnson. He forged the signature “D. Johnson” to the cheque, and had it cashed at the Bank of New Zealand, Eeatherston. He was in possession of an almost new bicycle.

Wellington.— 3oth ultimo : A warrant has been issued for the arrest of each of the following persons charging them that at Gladstone, near Carterton, on the 30th November, 1935, they did steal a quantity of wool, value £2O, the property of Roger Renal! — (1) Francis William Carroll Shutkowski, age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 11 in., good build, dark complexion, fairly full face, may have some upper front teeth missing ; probably dressed in an old brown or blue suit and felt hat (see Police Gazette, 1934, page 409) : and (2) F. Samuel Pryce, known as Sam Prvee, age about forty. eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, grey eyes; may be dressed in a dark suit, brown felt hat, and black boots or light-grey suit, soft cream-coloured shirt with open collar, and grey felt hat; said to walk with slight limp. He was employed as a cook at Tainui Station, but left suddenly on the 28th ultimo. In the commission of the offence they were associated with Robert Bruce McKinley (referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, page 303), who has been arrested by the Mount Cook (Wellington) police, and who has made a statement alleging the complicity of the other two men. There are other charges pending.

Christchurch. — sth instant, that he may be interviewed regarding the maintenance of his children, in the care of the Education Department, John Henry O’Callaghan, age about fifty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., cycle mechanic, native of New Zealand, sallow complexion, dark hair turning grey, W-jp/ Vr/lfco or?. fry / /

He was dressed in a grey flannel suit. Accused, who was employed by Lawrence Charles Brown, traveller, 107 Colombo Street, to sell leather goods on commission, obtained £3 from his employer by falsely representing that he had booked orders entitling him to £4 3s. commission.
