SPECIAL NOTICES.
Murder. | Christchurch. —At 2.45 p.m. on the 26th ultimo, the | naked dead body of a newly born male child was found floating ’ downstream in the Heathcote River at a point near Ensor’s | Road footbridge, Opawa. A post-mortem examination dis- | closed that the body was that of a full-time male European I child. Changes in the lungs indicated that the child had 4 breathed, and that death had resulted from fracture of the I skull inflicted probably ten to fourteen days prior to the I finding of the body. The body was 19 in. in length, weighed I approximately lb., and showed considerable putrefaction. The umbilical cord was not tied, and it is not possible to say * whether it had been cut or torn. There were several fractures \ of the skull indicating that more than one blow had been inflicted, and that the injuries had not been caused by a fall. Although the weight of the body was below average for a full-time child, the post-mortem examination disclosed that there is no doubt that it had reached the full period of gestation. There were no rparks of violence other than the Jinjuries to the skull. Any circumstances which would afford jf evidence of the identity of the parents of the child are to be | communicated to the Superintendent of Police at Christchurch.
