Murder. £6OO Reward and Indemnity against Prosecution. Whereas on I7th November, 1933, Donald Fraser was found dead as the result of gun-shot wounds at the Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton, Christchurch) New Zealand, and at an inquest concluded on 3rd July, 1934, the Coroner’s verdict was that the said Donald Fraser met his death through murder by some person or persons whose identity was not disclosed. It is hereby notified that a reward of six hundred pounds (£600) will be paid for material information or evidence which leads to the conviction of the person or persons who caused the death of the said Donald Fraser. If more than one claimant for the reward, amount to be apportioned by the Commissioner of Police. An indemnity against prosecution will be given to any accomplicenot being the person who actually caused the death of the said Donald Fraser—who shall first give such required information. This offer shall remain in force for three months only as from this date. Offers of reward previously made are hereby withdrawn. JOHN G. COBBE, Minister in Charge of Police Department. Forged Cheque for £I,OOO uttered. Napier. On 19th ultimo, a forged cheque for £I,OOO, dated 18th February, 1935, on National Bank of New Zealand, Napier, No. W 66303, made payable to “ 303 ” signed “ Henry IX Hardy,” was presented at the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., Napier, by an unknown man, who received two hundred £5 New Zealand Reserve Bank notes. The cheque is alleged to have been stolen from the chequebook of Henry Dalton Hardy, sheep-farmer, Hawke’s Bay, which was issued to him by the bank on the 26th July, 1934. It was the last but one in the cheque-book, and the butt was also missing from the book. Hardy issued the last cheque in the book on the Ist November, 1934, and the butt of that cheque is also missing from the book. The following is a description of the man, as supplied by the bank official who saw him at the time he presented the cheque : Age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 11 in., strong build, inclined to be stout, florid complexion, full face, strong lower jaw, lower lip inclined to protrude, clean-shaved, strong voice, believed native of New Zealand; dressed in a dark suit, dark-brown felt hat with brim turned down all round ; smartly dressed, and had the appearance of a farmer. The bank officials have some recollection that he said his name was Barrett, but they are not clear about it.
