INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Brisbane (Australia).- The yacht stolen at Brisbane, the property of Maldwyn Douglas Davies (see Police Gazette, 1934, page 444), has been recovered, and two men described hereunder are suspected of the offence: (1) Michael Porter, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., native of England, good build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes; well educated; speaks German; dressed in a pepper-and-salt coloured suit, tan shoes, leather coat, and leather cap; (2) Patrick O’Hara, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., seaman, black hair ; dressed in a blue serge suit, leather overcoat, and leather cap or felt hat. The following articles were missing from the yacht when it was recovered, and some of them may be in possession of the suspects : Two large chocolate-coloured blankets ; a pair of binoculars ; a Simplex fire-extinguisher; a Dietz hurricane lamp ; a ladies’ bluishgrey overcoat; and two anchors: total value, £ls. In the yacht there were found the following articles, apparently left by the offenders: A pair of tan shoes, size 7, “ D.K.” sewn on the uppers; a pair of grey socks, with “ T.L.” on them ; a scarf ; a woollen glove; and a sheet of a writingpad, on which is some writing in German. Any information regarding the suspects is to be immediately communicated to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, in whose office a specimen copy of the writing in German is filed. (P. 34/946).
