On or about the 31st May last, on warrant for theft of £6 165., the property of the Avondale Ex-service-men’s Social Club, Leslie George Hall, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair going bald ; usually dressed in a light-grey or blue serge suit and light-grey soft felt hat; talks quickly. Accused, who was appointed organizer of an art union on behalf of complainants, sold a number of tickets and disappeared with the proceeds. He may be accompanied by a man named Ratcliffe (age about twentytwo), and he may open an office and offer employment in return for investments.

The bicycle was stolen from the Dominion Auctioneering Co., 7 King Street, and sold to a second-hand dealer by a man of the description given for £l. No warrant.

Christchurch.— sth ultimo, for a breach of his probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Robert Henry Brcckie, referred to in Police Gazette, 1930, page 606, and 1934, page 414, and Photographs, 1923, page 34. On the 9th August, 1930, he was released on probation for three years and ordered to make restitution of £27 19s. 9d., which he has failed to do. It is also desired that he be sentenced on the original charges of false pretences, which are—(l) That at Dunedin on the 28th February, 1930, he obtained £2 7s. 6d. from William Brown by falsely stating that he represented the Dominion Sales Agency, 3 King Edward Street, and that an exercise-book containing complainant’s advertisement would be published within six weeks : (2) that at Dunedin on the 29th May, 1930, he obtained £1 2s. 6d. from Margaret Eugenie Buie by falsely stating that he represented the Dominion Sales Agency, and that an exercise-book containing complainant’s advertisemenL&ouldbe published in a fortnight!

Id. arrears for the maintenance of his stepdaughter, Doreen Burley, in the care of the Education Department, Marshall Hall, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., waiter and insurance agent, native of New Zealand, pale complexion, curly dark hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in blue suit (no hat) ; frequents hotels; smart appearance.

Invercargill. During the night of the 26th ultimo, some person or persons broke and entered the office of Alfred Cundall, butcher, Waikiwi, and attempted to open the safe by means of explosives. The offender left behind a lefthand woollen glove, and marks indicate that he was wearing gum boots, size 8. Any information regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Invercargill.
