Wellington. l7th November last, for attempted breaking and entering a shop and assault, Mar! (name unknown), age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., good build, dark complexion and hair; dressed in a dark suit and overcoat. Accused attempted to break and enter the shop of John Thomson, grocer, 15 The Parade, Island Bay, and when being pursued by complainant and his son, Alexander Thomson, he attacked them with some instrument and escaped. A hat subsequently found near the scene of the crime is supposed to belong to accused. Description : Light-grey felt, size 6J, branded “ Hope Bros., hatters, Wellington.” No warrant.

Wellington. —lst October last, on warrant for theft of £2O 55., the property of the Kaingaroa Bond Co., Ltd., William Ballington Lacey, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 6} in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, small sharp features; neatly dressed in a navy-blue suit and cap, and wears a tie-pin ; has the appearance of being a heavy drinker. Accused, who was a salesman for the firm mentioned, is charged as follows : “At Huarau on the Ist October, 1932, did receive from Ronald Flyger a cheque for £22 10s. on terms requiring him to account for or pay £2O ss. of that amount to the Kaingaroa Bond Co., and fraudulently omitted to so account for it.” He is in possession of a dark-green Essex coach motor-car, No. ff-327, the property of the complainant firm. The property was stolen from the Otago Tennis Club’s pavilion, and the racquets were sold to a second-handzdnaleg by accused.
