Whangarei. s*4 June, 1931, on warrant for theft, of £l7 10s., the prirurrty of Allan Leslie Tressider, Official Assignee, Granviifer Hunt, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 4f in., clerk, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair going bald, blue eyes, upper front teeth artificial ; usually well dressed. Accused, who was authorized by the Official Assignee to collect debts due to the bankrupt estate of Lane Bros., Rawene, received £l7 10s. on behalf of the estate and failed to account for it., There are other charges pending. On the 22nd March, 1932, at Thames, before F. W. Platts, S.M., in the case Police v. Samuel Woodroofe, theft, accused, in giving evidence for the police, made the following false assertion : “ Samuel Woodroofe, the defendant, did not know that I took the four gallons of benzine from the bowser at Kopu, and he knew nothing about the theft.” Cook, in a statement to the police, has confessed that Woodroofe bribed him to give false evidence. Woodroofe may assist accused to leave this Dominion, and special vigilance is to be exercised at all ports.

Grant, age about sixty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., canvasser, native of Scotland, good build, fresh complexion, grey hair going bald, blue eyes, sometimes grows a moustache; wears gold-rimmed glasses. Accused, who was employed as canvasser and collector for the Home Fires Kindle Club, requested complainant to give him £1 in silver, stating that Mrs. Bass had offered him a £1 note in payment of a small amount, and he had not the requisite change to give 'her. Complainant gave him £1 in silver, and he failed to return. He obtained 17s. 6d. from John Cunliffe, 86 Roxburgh Street, in a similar way. Christchurch. —Between Ist February and 12th June, 1931, on warrant for theft of £l3O 18s. fid., the property of Richard Hood Clay, solicitor, Greymouth, James Joseph Fitzgerald, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., clerk and exsolicitor, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes; usually dressed in a grey suit and fawn felt hat; slightly stooped. Accused, who was practising as a solicitor in Christchurch, received £l3O 18s. fid. on terms requiring him to account for same to Richard Hood Clay, but fraudulently omitted so to do. He was last heard of in England.

Dunedin. —lsth September last, on warrant for forgery, Henry Victor Elwyn spedding, referred to ill Police Gazette, 1932, page 628, and Photographs, page 74. Accused and John David Caskie, 1 McGlashan Street, South Dunedin, were fellow - prisoners in Paparua Prison, the former being discharged a week earlier than the latter. Spedding, whilst in prison, learned the address in Dunedin of a young woman with whom Caskie was corresponding, and soon after his discharge accused communicated with this woman, requesting her to forward £2 by money-order telegram to Christchurch Post-office. The money was forwarded, and accused at. the post-office forged Caskie’s signature.
