Kaikohe. —lßth January last, on warrant of commit l ent to Russell Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £1 9s. fine and costs for failing to register under the Unemployment Act, Tom Bartolovich, age forty-five, height 6 ft. 1| in., gumdigger, native of Dalmatia, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes. He is at present an inmate of the Avondale Mental Hospital. ///&/%

Auckland. —24th February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three days in default of paying £1 17s. fine and costs for being found on licensed premises during prohibited hours, James Patrick Cusack, age about thirty-one, height about 5 ft. 7 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair; usually dressed in r a grey suit and cap ; smart appearance.

Auckland. 4th instant, that he may be located for failing to return his uniform and equipment to the Defence Department, Henry Edward Roberts, referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 634, and Photographs, page 87.

Auckland. —6th February last, for theft of a cheque for £5 12s. 6d. on the National Bank of New Zealand, Auckland (recovered), the property of Barbarich and Matutinovich; 3 Matai Road, Charles Eric Spurgeon, referred to in Police Gazette, 1930, page 101, and Photographs, 1922, page 116. Accused was given the cheque to purchase two piston-rods to repair a motor-lorrv. He cashed the cheque and disappeared. No warrant/ JW/h

Wanganui. —On or about the 26th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, George Cotterill, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes ; wearing a brown suit; smart appearance. Accused obtained £5 from Philip Edgar Ogier, tobacconist, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 ss. 6d. He is canvassing country districts for the sale of a farmers’ ledger named “ Simplified Farm Records and Income-tax Papers.” There are other charges pending. Dannevirke. —lßth January last, on warrant for theft of a cheque for £5 Bs., the property of James Burton Penny, auction-mart proprietor, James Senior McCardell, alias Frederick Thompson, age twenty-four (looks older), height 5 ft. 10 in., butcher, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, scar on left palm and wrist; wearing a dark-brown suit, black shoes, felt hat, soft shirt with collar attached, no tie; fond of horse-racing; talkative. Accused assisted Samuel White Maxwell to deliver a consignment of tomatoes to complainant’s auction-mart. Later the accused called on complainant stating that he was the owner of the tomatoes and collected the cheque, which was payable to S. W. Maxwell or order. Accused forged the signature of S. W. Bth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for four days in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for supplying liquor after hours, Hubert Smith, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., hotel porter and steward, native of England, strong build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a blue suit and brown shoes. Believed to be in Australia.

Wellington. — November last, on warrant for false pretences, Maurice John Leight, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 85. Accused obtained £6O from South Pacific Mortgage and Deposit Co., Ltd., Customhouse Quay, by falsely representing that a legacy, of £IOO bequeathed to him by Bridget Foley, of Blenheim, contingent on his attaining the age of twenty-five years, was not assigned, pledged, mortgaged, charged, or encumbered.

Wellington.— Chong, alias Chan Chuan, alias Dang Toon, ship-desertion, referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 100, and 1931, page 484. When offender was interviewed by the Hastings police on the 29th ultimo, he produced a poll-tax receipt issued at Wellington on the 30th January, 1908, to Lui Hok Keong, and stated that that was his name. His finger-prints were taken, and it has now been ascertained that he is identical with offender. Blenheim. —26th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a 1925 model six-cylinder five-seater Chandler motor-car, painted blue, black hood and mudguards, artillery wheels, registration No. 138-259, engine No. 149754, chassis No. 159863; a camping outfit; a red and black blazer, with pick and shovel monogram and “ G.D.C.” on it; a quantity of ammunition ; a fibre suit-case, containing a brown suit, made by J. and J. Arthur, Dunedin ; a number of shirts, socks, &c. ; and £lO in money : total value, £194 2s. 6d. Identifiable ; the property of William Hay Couston, 14 Grater Street, Dunedin, James Alexander Carman, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 1\ in., labourer and waiter, native of New Zealand, good build, ruddy complexion, light-brown hair, brown eyes, front teeth deeaved ; wearing a grey flannel suit, black shoes (no hat); quiet manner. Complainant gave accused the keys of his motor-car and a cheque for £lO to purchase necessities for camping. He cashed the cheque and disappeared. (See Police Gazette, 1930, page 720, and .
