SPECIAL NOTICES.
Mischief: Obstruction upon Railway, &c. Auckland. —About 7 p.m. on the sth ultimo, a Man (name unknown), informed the police by telephone that he had just placed an obstruction on the railway near Mount Eden Railway-station, and that he had done so for the purpose of wrecking Government trains. Police and Railway officials removed the obstruction, which proved to be a piece of timber, 7 ft. long by 4 in. by 4 in. On the 26th ultimo another telephone message to the police, apparently by the same man, who gave the name “ Old Black Joe,” announced that he had started a fire near the Auckland Gas Company’s premises at Freemans Bay. This fire, in its incipient stages, was extinguished by the police and fire brigade. Several telephone messages from this man, who apparently uses slottelephones, have been received by the police, and a person signing the name “ Old Black Joe, the Railway Foe,” has forwarded letters in print-writing to the Police Department, and also to the editor, Auckland Star newspaper, concerning the obstruction placed upon the railway. The police are to be on the alert to obtain information which might assist in establishing thq Q'tyft) C (/[) Concealment of Birth.. V 9/Z/o K Blenheim. the 27th ultimo, the dead body of a fullydeveloped female child was found in the Opawa River. A post-mortem examination revealed that it was a full-time child, and had been still-born about from three to six weeks previously to the discovery of the body in the river. Every effort is to be made to obtain information that might assist in establishing the identity of the parents of the child.
Conviction quashed.
The conviction of Donald Eric Ewart, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 326, has been quashed, and is to be deleted from all copies of the Police Gazette.
