INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney (Australia). — On the 27th ultimo, No. 6 Flat, Cheppy-Wood Flats, 586 New South Head Road, Point Piper, occupied by BEATRICE KATHLEEN BRUCE-SMITH, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ gold wristletwatch, square shape, sharp edges, black band; a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch, square-shaped case, round dial, edges levelled, black band ; a gentlemen’s 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold wristlet-watch, luminous dial, “ Levenson, Perth ” on dial; a gentlemen’s oldfashioned open-face gold watch ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with about five small sapphires in line, and about nine small diamonds each side in platinum setting ; a ladies’ small single-stone diamond gold ring, claw setting; a ladies’ gold little-finger ring, set with one diamond in star setting ; a ladies’ gold diamond ring, platinum setting, three diamonds in row; a ladies’ gold ring, one large diamond and shipshaped diamonds on each side, centre stone raised, platinum and claw setting ; a ladies’ gold wedding ring ; a ladies’ diamond and pearl brooch, question mark in diamonds and pearl underneath ; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold old-fashioned brooch, set with a blue sapphire and a diamond on each side of sapphire, filigree fancy gold at each side, chain and pin attached; a ladies’ gold safety-pin brooch, set with three diamonds, star setting; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold oval bangle, set with three
diamonds, star setting about 1 in. apart, “ Mother to Beatrice ” thereon; a ladies’ gold bangle, 1 in. wide, boat engraved on outside, and “ Euchre, B. K. Cossart, 2nd prize ” underneath ; a silver oval jewel-box, 5 in. or 6 in. long, “ 8.K.C.” in monogram on lid ; a blue heatherette jewel-case, square, about 6 in. in diameter, “ Drummonds, Melbourne ” thereon ; a ladies’ gold cigarette-case, about 3 in. long by 2 in., “ 8.8.5.” in monogram in centre ; a gentlemen’s gold cigar-case, with amber holder, “ G. 8.5.” in monogram on lid ; a gentlemen’s gold cigar-piercer, “G. -Smith ” engraved thereon; a small silver-chain bag; a long silver muff-chain, cable pattern ; an oxidized silver and greenstone muff-chain ; an old silver pendant drop, set with pearls and brilliants ; also broken jewellery of gold bangles, trinkets, gold yachts, boomerangs, and gold half-moon brooches : total value, £4OO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Nita Jamieson, alias Nita Keating, who had been employed by complainant for many years as a house-maid, and who left recently, age twenty 5 ft. high, thin build, Greek or Jewish appearance, sharp nose, dark-brown eyes ; well dressed in brown fleck coat and. skirt, red hat, or black coat and skirt. She may be accompanied by a man of medium height and build, square shoulders, dressed in dark suit and grey felt hat. Some of the jewellery may reach this Dominion. (P. 31/1210.)
