He has been actively operating on dwellings in Auckland for some months past, between 7 p.m. and 6.30 a.m. He removes his boots before entering the houses, and steals money (only) from rooms whilst the occupants are in another part of the dwelling. Indications are that he wears size 5 shoes, and a hat about size 6|. No warrant.

Accused called at 11 Warrington Road, Remuera, about 7.15 p.m., and asked complainant, who answered the doorbell, whether she was alone. On receiving a reply in the affirmative he dealt her a blow on the head with some instrument, rendering her unconscious, after which he entered the house and stole a rimu bedroom clock with gold-coloured dial, 4 in. high and 10 in. long, with curved top ; value, £l. Identifiable. No warrant.

He was dressed in a dark-blue suit, and fawn soft felt hat with “ Dunckleys Premier Hat, Papakura ” branded inside. Accused forged the signature R. H. Hosking to a cheque for £3 15s. 6d. and uttered it to Thomas Charles Dunckley, outfitter, in payment for goods value £1 4s/9d./ receiving £2 10s. 9d„-change. No warrant. •sA / 7/

Accused obtained benzine and £2 7s. cash from Harold Russell Davies, garageproprietor, by means of a valueless cheque for £3. He is also wanted on warrant at Wellington for a similar offence. Between the Ist and 4th ultimo, for obtaining credit for fraud(l) Manson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, good build, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat : and (2) McEwan (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, slight build, dark complexion and hair, protruding lips, weak chin ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and felt hat. Each accused incurred a debt of £1 10s. for board with Gertrude Bertha Cutter, proprietress, private hotel, by falsely representing that they were employed by the Hamilton Radio Company. No warrants issued for this offence. They are identical with Mason and McCready, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 370.

New Plymouth. —During the night of the 19th ultimo the office of the Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Courtenay Street, was broken into and an unsuccessful attempt made by means of explosives to open the strong-room. There is evidence that more - than one person participated in the offence, and that they had a motor-car. The police are to be on the alert to discover the offenders.

Accused obtained a cheque for £3OO from complainant to invest in Kemball’s debentures. On the same day he had the cheque cashed by the licensee. Masonic Hotel, and failed to invest the money. There is another charge of theft of £2OO pending. He is a son-in-law of Mr. W. R. Kemball, theatre-proprietor, Wellington, and habitually boasts of the fact. He may endeavour to leave this Dominion.
