Dargaville.—On or about the 13th December last, on warrant for forgery, Simon Fleming, age twenty height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes ; dressed in a dark suit; associates with Maoris. Accused, who is living apart from his wife, was working on public works at Tangaihi. Portion of his —£6 15s. lOd.was forwarded per moneyorder by the Department to his wife, P. I. Fleming, at Te Kopuru, He obtained possession of the order and induced Caroline Welch, of Dargaville, to forge the signature “ P. I. Auckland. —12th January last, on warrant for false pretences, Gerald Rutherford, alias Irvine, alias J. Armstrong, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and pastrycook, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, dots on forearms ; dressed in a dark suit and light felt hat. Accused obtained £2 from Leonard Mawhinney, labourer, 15 Huntly Avenue, by falsely representing that he was assistant organizer for the Cancer Research Fund. There are other charges pending. During the night of the 22nd December last the launch “ Huia,” the property of Captain George McKenzie, value £l5O, was unlawfully removed from her moorings at Devonport and taken outside the North Head, where she was found badly damaged, an attempt apparently having been made to sink her.
