Newton. —28th February last, for escaping from Avondale Mental Hospital, Donald Murdoch McLean, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., stock-dealer, strong build, fresh complexion, hair turning grey, grey moustache ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey felt hat.

Auckland . — 6th March last, on warrant for failing to maintain his four children in the care of the Education Department, Harold Malcolm, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 31 in., labourer and taxi-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, dimple in chin, front teeth missing. Auckland. — ultimo, for forgery and uttering, Edward Arthur Peters, alias Ted Peters, referred to in Police Gazette, 1929, page 98, and Photographs, 1921, page 113. Accused forged the signature of M. R. Watt to a cheque for £8 Os. 6d. and uttered it to Reginald George Wild, tent-maker, &c., 79 Queen Street, in payment for a child’s swing, receiving £7 14s. cash. Up to the end of March last a man named Ted Peters was employed by Max Russell Watt, Rangiriri, and after he left his employment Watt discovered that his cheque-book containing about fifty-four blank cheques had been stolen. Accused may possess about forty blank cheques on the Bank of Australasia, numbered from about 8107484. He is slightly stooped and is suffering from consumption, for which he may be receiving treatment at some hospital. No warrant, gy S/

Auckland. —l9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £5 11s. sd. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his two children in the care of the Education Department, John Brady Michael Hogan, age forty height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, sallow complexion, light-brown hair, brown eyes, prominent ears, left forefinger and tip of left little finger missing, scars on left thumb and fingers. Waihi. —16th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for six months in default of paying £23 4s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Ida Brown, domestic, Kenny Street, is the mother, Norman George Emmett, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., ex billiard-saloon proprietor and storekeeper, native of Australia, medium build, swarthy complexion, black hair, brown eyes, small nose and features, clean-shaved; usually well dressed. His wife and child recently left for Australia and he may attempt to follow them.

Waihi. —On or about the 2nd March, on warrant for theft of £1 25., the property of the Waihi Borough Council, Wevßlg Milway, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New .Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; an amateur boxer. In company with his brother, referred to in following paragraph, he stole the money from gas-meters in dwellings. He left Waihi on the 23rd March last with Perry Bros.’ Circus, and will probably endeavour to leave for Australia this month. Several charges are pending.

Hamilton. —On the 19th December last some person (unknown) forged the signature of Christopher Boyce, farmer, Tatanui, to a telegram which was handed in at Auckland Post-office, addressed to the Waikato Valley Dairy Company, Frankton Junction. The telegram read: “ Post cheque Call Sonoma Boardinghouse Grafton Road Auckland.” Any information regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Hamilton. No warrant.

Hamilton. — Kerr, false pretences : It has been ascertained by the Hamilton police that accused may be identical with Henry Lloyd, alias Alfred AppS, referred to in Police Gazette, 1929, page 193, and Photographs, 1926, page 36. (See Police Gazette, 1929, page 176.)^^^

Wairoa. —12th December last, on warrant for theft of a cheque for £3 14s. Bd. (recovered) and a £lO note, George Harris, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., cook and steward, native of England, slight build, sallow complexion, b]g,ck hair, dark eyes, high forehead, scar on one side of face ; usually dressed in a grey suit and grey felt hat; suffers from sciatica. Accused, who was employed as cook on the Napier-Wairoa construction-works, was given the £lO note and cheque with which to pay accounts. Accused obtained £6 from John Moffet Turnbull, licensee, Club Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount on the Bank of New Zealand, Opunake. _ f , /

Accused obtained £4 19s. 6d. from Arthur Hellier Sutton, draper, Fergusson Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £6 which he tendered in payment of £1 previously loaned to him by complainant. Accused, who was in the Alhambra Hotel with two friends at closingtime, was requested to leave, whereupon he assaulted the licensee, John James Oliver.

The articles were stolen from 28 Webb Street and sold to a second-hand dealer by a man of the description given. No warrant.
