The suit-case was stolen from complainant’s car in Elliott Street, and sold to a secondhand dealer by a man of the description given. No warrant.

The cramp was stolen from complainant’s shop, and sold to a second-hand dealer by a man of the description given. No warrant.

Auckland. —Bth instant, that he may he interviewed regarding the maintenance of his illegitimate child, of whom Minnie Katherine Brothers is the mother, William Henry Murphy, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., greaser and engineer, native of England, clean-shaved ; well dressed in a navy-blue suit and black patent-leather shoes. Inquiry by the Education Department, Wellington.

Kerr (name probably fictitious), age about fifty-three, height about 5 ft. 11 in., good build, fair complexion, going bald, slightly stooped ; dressed in a blue serge suit and hard hat, and wears gold-rimmed spectacles hooked behind ears, had a moustache, quiet manner. On the 28th ultimo, accused, in the name of J. Booth, opened an account at the Bank of New South Wales, Hamilton, depositing £5, and was supplied with a cheque-book, Nos. 490781-490810, after which he withdrew £4 10s. by cheque. Next day he obtained a pair of gentlemen’s black Crockett and Jones boots, size 8, “ Made expressly for F. G. Keep, Hamilton,” on soles, value £2 55., and £4 15s. cash from Frederick George Keep, bootimporter, Victoria Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £7, signed J. Booth. Accused represented himself to be manager for Robert Francis, Ltd., music-importers, Christchurch, and said he intended opening a branch of the business at Hamilton. He operated several other valueless cheques in a similar manner, and in locating him the assistance of

Christchurch. —14th December last, for false . pretences, Allan Scott (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height sft 8 in., medium build, fair complexion ; dressed in a grey suit and light felt hat. Accused obtained groceries, value Bs., and £9 12s. cash from Messrs Tucks, Ltd., grocers, 773 Colombo Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO on the Union Bank of Australia, Invercargill, signed “T. Bennet (Treas.) ” and “G. V. Forbes (Sec.), Invercargill Civilian Band.” He carried out the fraud by sending a boy to obtain the goods and have the cheque cashed, and he also cashed three other cheques the same day in a similar manner. He may be identical with William Thomas, alias William Grey, alias Edward Matthews, referred to in Police Gazette, 1924, page 284, and Photographs, page 47 ; and also with Charles Robertson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1929, page 4. Williams (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion and hair, left fingers bandaged ; dressed in a blue suit. Accused obtained £1 10s. from Weston, Ward, and Lascelles, solicitors, 152 Manchester Street, by falsely representing that he was employed by Harlow and Jones, contractors, building a house at Hanmer for D. Rutherford, had met with an accident, losing two fingers, and that the sum of £l4 2s. was owing to him for wages.

Dunedin. —22nd January last, on Warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for two days in default of paying £1 ss. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, David Lionel Jacobs, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7J in., motor mechanic, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, snake on right forearm, butterfly on left hand, (See Police Gazette, 1929, page 74.)

Dunedin. — 15th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Eliza Dennison, 666 King Street, Frank Dennison, age thirty -five, height 5 ft. 10 in., storeman, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on each thumb, black dot between left thumb and forefinger ; usually dressed in a grey suit and tan shoes. Dunedin. 2Bth December last, on warrant for forgery, Maurice Morten, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, thin build, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in Oxford bags, light tweed sports coat, and tan shoes. Accused forged the signature of his former employer, Alexander Forsyth, farmer, Owaka, to an order on Latta Bros., Owaka, for the supply of goods, value £5 10s.
