Kawhia. — ultimo, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), John Fagan, age -nine, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, dagger, heart, and “ Death before Dishonour,” on left upper arm ; anchor and flags on left forearm ; flags, sailor, woman’s head, and wreath on right forearm. Napier.’ l7th November last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £7 75., the property of Keble Bowden, B. Smith (name probably fictitious), age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., thin build, sallow complexion, brown hair and eyes ; dressed in a blue-serge suit. The description is that of a man who sold the bicycle to a second-hand dealer.

Hastings.—l6th November last, for false pretences, Edward Arthur Peters, alias Ted Peters, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 101 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair, grey eyes, scar on left forearm and on back of right hand, tip of left little finger missing ; dressed in a grey suit and light-grey overcoat. Accused obtained £5 from Albert Hill, farmer, by falsely representing that he and his brother had 12,000 acres of land at Motuhora, and that he had mislaid his cheque-book. No warrant. Ormond ville. —27th September last, on warrant for failing to make provision for his unborn illegitimate child, William Walkinshaw, age twenty-one (looks older), height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, red hair, two right upper teeth missing ; usually dressed in a -grey suit. Complainant, Madeline Margaret Archer, Otawhao, Takapau.

Wanganui. 29th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain bis wife, Mary Agnes Reed, and three children, 54 Gonville Avenue, Albert Edward Reed, age forty-four, height about 5 ft. 9 in., butcher, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair going bald, blue eyes ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and grey felt hat; smart appearance. He may be accompanied by Nona May Anderson, age twenty, height 5 ft. 1 in., cashier, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, black hair, large brown eyes, shows teeth when smiling ; usually wears a navy-blue repp coat or a navy-blue velour coat with rolled grey fur collar. /O-

Dannevirke. —sth ultimo, for forgery and uttering, Thomas Knight, alias Ford, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6J in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, pug nose, clean-shaved, dagger on right forearm, clasped hands and dagger on left forearm, heart and arrow on back of right hand, ring on right middle finger. Accused forged the signature “ James Brittick ” to a cheque for £4, No. A 55703, on the Bank of New Zealand, Dannevirke, and uttered it to William Shire and Co. in payment for fruit, receiving £3 15s. change. The cheque is from a cheque-book issued in 1926 to Thomas Ronan, Mangatoro Valley, who is now deceased. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1924, page 191.) C f *

Wellington.loth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for two months in default of paying £23 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Albert Edward Victor Boyd, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, curly dark-brown hair, dark-blue eyes; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit and tan shoes : no hat. /mm.

Wellington.—On or about the 31st December last, on warrant for breaking and entering the shop of Charles William Hibbard, Civic Chambers, and stealing a gentlemen’s double breasted light-grey sports • coat, half-belt at back, blue-grey fining in shoulders, pale-blue striped fining in sleeves, and a gentlemen’s double-breasted navy-blue embossed fishbone cloth overcoat, Prince style ; total value, £7 7s. 6d., Ben Gemmell, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, lion on right forearm ; usually dressed in a navyblue suit and fawn felt hat. Wellington.— ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife', Arthur Wellesly Jones, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair turning grey, hazel eyes, crooked nose, scar on upper lip, mole on back of neck, small portion of tongue missing, slightly stooped. Arrears to 28th ultimo, £4l 17s. 6d. (See Police Gazette, 1923, page 203.)

Wellington. — ultimo, for theft, forgery, and uttering, John Edmund Thomas O’Sullivan, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 10£ in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, freckled complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes, large ears, scar on right wrist, left leg has been broken ; dressed in a dark-grey coat, grey flannel trousers, grey - tweed overcoat, and fawn hat. Accused stole a Post Office Savings-bank book, No. 288396, from Charles Hillhouse, 29 Garden Road, forged the signature C. Hillhouse to a withdrawal slip for £IOO, presented it at the G.P.0., Wellington, and obtained £IOO, supposed in £2O notes. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1927, page 432.)

Christchurch.24th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Nancy Doreen Meek, 16 Slater Street, Joseph Henry Meek, age twenty-nine, height 6 ft. 4 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair going bald, brown eyes, large nose and ears ; usually dressed in a brown or grey suit, fawn overcoat, greyfelt hat, and tan shoes ; a prominent swimmer. // y-A/£.

Christchurch. —7th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for being on licensed premises during prohibited hours, Frederick Rabbitt, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, blue eyes. r zgyjQ/k.%

Christchurch.—On or about 14th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value, £9 10s., the property of Gordon Nelson Balfour, J. Houston (name probably fictitious), age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, fresh-tanned complexion ; wearing a lavender-blue suit with double-breasted coat. The bicycle was sold to a second-hand dealer by a man of the description given.

Christchurch.2Bth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Clara Stockham Chisnall, 78 Gayhurst Road, Dalfington, Francis Harold Chisnall, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, broken nose ; fond of billiards. Arrears to 19th October last, £9.165. 7d.

Accused obtained goods valued at £5 7s. 6d. from William Cornelius O’Donnell by falsely representing that he was engaged by the Agriculture Department. He was arrested for the offence and pleaded guilty, and was remanded on bail until the 25th ultimo, when he failed to appear. There is another charge pending. • ,/) . ?/7/3a

Invercargill.2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, James Henry Bailey, alias Smith, age fifty-three, height 5 ft. 6|-'in., labourer and chimney-sweep, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, brown hair, dark-blue eyes, woman, snake, &c., on arms, scar on upper lip, wart under left eye.
