MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.

Retired on Pension, under Section 26, Public Service Superannuation Act, 1927. No. 730. Constable Findlay, Charles. 17th January, 1929.

Memorandum.] Police Representative on Superannuation Board. The following extract from the New Zealand Gazette of 1929, page 138, is published for general information and attention. In connection therewith I desire to hereby, announce to the members of the Police Force that although for three years past the representative of the Force on the Board, I have decided that for very obvious reasons I shall not accept nomination on this occasion. For many years past there has been but one submitted nomination (that of the Commissioner), and no competitive election has taken place.

I feel that the representative of the Police Force on the Superannuation Board should be selected by competitive election, as provided by statute, to ensure fully approved representation in accordance with the undoubted wish of the Police contributors to the fund, fully, clearly, and properly expressed by ballot, without hesitation or restricted discrimination.

Manifestly it would be subversive of discipline for competition to take place between any member of the Service and the Commissioner.

I have no desire to monopolize the position of Police representative on the Board. This, however, is but one of my reasons for declining nomination.

Most sincerely do I thank you for your past confidence which has been and ever shall be appreciated by me in the greatest measure. W. B. Mcllvenet, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 23rd January, 1929. (P. 29/118.)
