Auckland. —lßth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for six months in default of paying £166 13s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, John William Hope, alias J. Lane, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 3 h in., electrician, native of England, stout build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, scar over left eye and on right middle finger. {See Police Gazette, 1927, page 623.)

Auckland. l2th ultimo, for assault, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 5 in., strong build, dark complexion and eyes, clean-shaved; dressed in a fawn tweed suit and dark-brown felt hat; foreign accent. About 7.30 p.m., in Cleveland Road, accused assaulted Ellen Halley, 50 Gladstone Road, Parnell. No warrant.

Auckland. —l6th instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), James Graham King, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 3 in., horse-trainer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, brown eyes. On the 27th August last, for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his three children, accused was ordered to come up if called on. He has failed to report to the Probation Officer, and his arrest is desired.

Auckland. sth April last, for forgery, Man (name unknown). Accused called at the Post-office for letters and was given a letter addressed to Mr. James Fleming,” containing a money-order for £3 ss. The order was cashed at the Otahuhu Post-office. .Suspicion is attached to James Fleming, referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 533, who has been interviewed, but the evidence is insufficient to sustain a charge against him. No warrant.

Raiiotu. — May last, for false pretences, W. J. Gillies, height 5 ft. 11 in., medium build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, brown moustache ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and grey felt hat, and wears gold-rimmed pince-nez. Accused obtained benzine and oil, value £1 Bs. 3d., and 11s. 9d. cash from John Leo Po er, blacksmith, Okato, by means of a valueless cheque f £2. He may be identical with man of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 653. No warrant,

Hawera. —l9th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Elizabeth Vera Seager, and three children, Reginald Eugene Seager, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, good build, ruddy complexion, ginger hair very long in front, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a grey suit and. blue overcoat with half-belt at back; a fairly good cricketer. Wanganui. 23rd instant, on warrant for false pretences, Henry William Charles McKay, alias Beaumont, age twentyfour, height 5 ft. 9 in., plasterer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on left side of face, on each forefinger, and on left shin. Accused obtained £5 from Charles Cann, billiard-saloon proprietor Victoria Avenue, by means of a valueless cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui. The cheque is from the cheque-book, No. 950192-8950208, of Philip Desire England, 28 Kawatiri Avenue, whose dwelling was entered on the 20th instant, and Bs. 2d. also stolen. He possesses! clothing marked “ McCabe ” and McKay,” a writing-pad with “ Henry William Kingsland ”on it, and a ladies' " gold wristlet tvatch. Accused is also suspected of stealing from the dwelling of Louise Raines, 168 Heads Road, on the 20th instant a mounted Kruger sovereign and 6s. lOd. in cash. Whilst at Wanganui he assumed the name Gordon Sinclair Fletcher, and was dressed in a blue suit with double-breasted coat and fawn woollen jacket, and wore a square silver wristlet watch. Palmerston North. 24th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his three children, Archibald Reid, age about forty-nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of Scotland, strong build, sandy hair turning grey and going bald, paleblue eyes, full face, short thick nose ; usually dressed in a grey suit. Arrears to 24th ultimo, £lB 18s.^^*^

Masterton. —19th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Elsie Pearson, Johnstone Street, and two children, Thomas Johnston Pearson, age twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, brown eyes, large nose, no upper teeth, clean-shaved ; slightly deaf ; defective speech ; dressed in a navy-blue suit (no hat).

Wellington. —23rd instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probationary license, Robert Hume, alias Hughes, alias Matthews, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 3 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, two scars on right side of neck, ring on left middle finger. His license has been cancelled and his return to the nearest prison is desired. His period of probation expires on the 2nd December, 1928, after which no action is to be taken. He arrived from Australia on the 18th ultimo, was permitted to leave his luggage at the Police-station, and failed to return for it.
