Whangarei. —3rd December last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying 14s. costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Henry Joseph Roycroft, age twenty, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and farm hand, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in a navy-blue suit, brown felt hat, and brown shoes.

Auckland. l7th April last, for theft of a ladies’ gold ring (recovered), value £lO 10s., the property of George Smerdon, jeweller, Broadway, Newmarket, Theo Thompson (name probably fictitious), age about forty-eight, height about 5 ft. 11 in., strong build, fresh complexion ; and Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, fresh complexion. The accused requested to be shown some rings, and surreptitiously left the shop, taking with them the above-mentioned ring, which was subsequently pawned by a man giving the name Theo Thompson. No warrant.

Auckland. — ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Rutherford Denholm McOuSiy, age thirty-one, height about 5 ft. 5 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, grey eyes, well spoken; fond of drink; smart appearance. Accused obtained £3B 4s. 3d. from George Walker’s, Limited, auctioneers, by falsely representing that a quantity of furniture was his own property, whereas it was held on a hirepurchase agreement with Tonson, Garlick, Limited, to whom the sum of £72 3s. 7d. was still owing. He may endeavour to leave- this Dominion. ( •

Accused obtained £8 from Charles Woollett, fireman, 39 Cowper Street, Greymouth, by falsely representing that he was staying at the Windsor Hotel and required the money to pay for his board. No warrant.
