The accused, who represented that they desired to buy a ring, were shown some, but did not make a purchase, stating that they would call later. After their departure the above-mentioned ring was missing. It was subsequently found in Lyndock Street. No warrant.

Auckland. — On or about the 30th December, 1926, for theft of a military saddle-cloth (recovered), value 12s. 6d., the property of the New Zealand Government (Defence Department), Hubert John Holliday, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of Canada, strong build, fresh complexion, fair moustache; erect gait; talkative. He left Auckland by the s.s. “ Niagara ” for Canada on the 21st November last. The saddle-cloth was recovered at a pawnshop. No warrant.

Auckland. 7th ultimo, for attempted theft of a ladies’ handbag containing 35., total value £1 os. 6d., the property of Hilda Ethel Buckley, 27 Selborne Road, Surrey Crescent, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build ; dressed in a grey suit and grey cap. About 9.30 p.m., in Selborne Road, accused attempted to snatch complainant’s handbag from her. No warrant.

Wanganui. — On or about the 7th March last, for theft of a pair of gum-boots (recovered), value £l, the property of William Lind, Joe Harris (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion and hair, clean-shaved; dressed in a blue suit and light cap. The boots were stolen from saleyards at Wanganui and sold at a second-hand shop. No warrant.

Masterton. —Between the sth and 11th ultimo, on warrant for breaking and entering the premises of William Winter, coachbuilder, and steaking therefrom three motor-tires, &c. Wellington.— lnquiries are to be made for Marion Marks (married, native of England), who arrived at Wellington by the s.s. “ Corinthic ” on the 7th January, 1925, and obtained permit, No. 4077, to import a double-barrelled breech-loading shot-gun and a -22 calibre B.S.A. rifle. She has failed to register the firearms in accordance with the provisions of section 9, Arms Act, 1920.
