Auckland. —Between the 17th and 19th instant, on warrant for breaking and entering the warehouse of Irving Clarke, Ltd., Anzac Avenue, and stealing therefrom fortyone boxes of cigarettes (recovered), value £60 (1) Harry Rae, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 5 in., hotel porter, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes (see Police Gazette, 1925, page 360); and (2) Ernest Rae, age forty, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, blue eyes. Accused obtained a fawn fuji silk shirt and collar (“ Summit ” branded below collar-band, oblong buttons), a light-grey cap (size 6f), and two white handkerchiefs, value £1 16s. 6d., and £3 3s. 6d. cash from Samuel Irwin; mercer, Victoria Avenue, by means of a valueless cheque for £5. The cheque had been stolen from the dwelling* .of Martha Coles, Broadway Street, Palmerston North. ' Wellington. 24th June last, for false pretences, Andrew Martin Carroll, age forty, height 5 ft. 8/ in., labourer, native of Ireland, slight build, pale complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, long nose, clasped hands across heart and “ True love ” on right forearm ; dressed in a grey dirty suit, cap, and fawn raincoat; fond of drink and dancing. Accused obtained £1 2s. -from John Bolton, motor mechanic, Pownell Street, Masterton, by falsely representing himself to be Tom Dyer, and that he had a quantity of tobacco at E. W. Mills’ store for complainant’s father. . The photograph of accused has been identified as that of offender. There is another charge pending. Mo warrant. Wellington. 2oth July last, on warrant for theft of a pair of Zeiss binoculars (recovered), value £l2, the property of Jocelyn Prendegast Knight, domestic, 126 Bolton Street, G. P. Kendrick (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, dark complexion; dressed in a dark suit and dark felt hat. The binoculars were stolen from a garage at above address and pawned for £1 10s.

Accused, who was employed by complainants, forged the name “E. E. Dale ” to a cheque for the above amount, which he cashed at the National Bank and disappeared.
