Appointments as Detectives.

No. 2025. Constable Studholme, Lindsay. Ist April, 1927. No. 2303. Constable Mayne, John Campbell. Ist April, 1927. Circular No. 4/27.] Uniform Clothing. In terms of Regulation No. 502, the following alterations in the uniform of non-commissioned officers and constables have been approved : Head Dress. Shakos will be issued to replace the blue helmet. For the present the shako will be worn only on day duty in fine weather. In wet weather and on night duty the blue helmet will be worn. Shakos will be issued to all non-commissioned officers and constables who now wear forage caps, .which in future will be worn by officers only. The first issue of shakos will be made to members in the four principal cities and suburbs, and then to other districts as supplies become available. Badges. new silver badge will be issued to be worn on the shako. The present bronzed badge will be retained on the blue helmet, but the silver shako badge will be worn on the white helmet.

Buttons. Silver buttons of a new design will be issued to replace the black buttons on the frock. One set of silver buttons will be issued from District Headquarters to each non-commissioned officer and constable doing duty in uniform, and these will be entered on the certificate of appointments of the member to whom they are issued, and must be accounted for by him. The silver buttons are to be placed on the frocks now in use as soon as the shakos and silver badges are received, and are to be removed and placed on each new issue of frock. Extra buttons will not be issued except to replace any that may be damaged on duty or that become unfit for use through fair wear and tear. The black buttons may be retained on a frock used only on night duty. Black buttons will be retained on night-duty coats. Frocks.— patch-pockets on frocks will be discontinued, and in future frocks will be made without any outside pockets. —Trousers must be made up finished at the bottom two inches (not more) less in width than the knee measure: and the length arranged to show the second lace hole from the bottom of boot when standing erect.

Material. — ln future the material for the making-up of uniforms will be a blue worsted weighing 16 oz. to the yard, in place of the 24-oz. blue tweed issued heretofore.

Uniformity of Dress. —In each city or town all members of the Force attached to the principal and suburban stations shall wear similar uniform, and care must be taken to see that some members are not wearing shakos while others are wearing blue or white helmets during the same period of the day. Inspection of Uniform. Members of the Force at District Headquarters must be paraded and uniforms inspected by the officer in charge of the district at least once every month. If for any reason the officer in charge is unable to carry out any monthly inspection, he shall report to that effect to the Commissioner. Officers in charge of districts and stations will be held responsible for seeing that uniforms, including the silver badges and buttons, are kept clean and tidy at all times. W. B.
