PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. 9th August last, for theft of a cheque for £5 (recovered), the property of Michael Frawley, Tangiwahine, Dargaville, N. G. Wilson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes; dressed in a light-grey suit, striped socks, and black patent-leather shoes. Complainant lost the cheque in Auckland on the above date, and on the 12th August last the above-described man tendered the cheque in payment for a pair of shoes to Francis Ronald Bacon, Newmarket, who retained the shoes and cheque until the address given was verified, but on inquiry it was found to be false. No warrant.

Auckland. —27th September last, for assault and robbery, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build ; dressed in a grey suit and grey felt hat. About 0.20 p.m., in a lavatory at the Prince Arthur Hotel, Hobson Street, Walter Douglas, 104 Hobson Street, was assaulted by a man of the above description and robbed of £2 10s. and three packets of cigarettes. No warrant.

Auckland.— the night of the 12th ultimo some person or persons unlawfully converted to their own use a Baby Austin motor-car (recovered), value £175, the property of Frank Milton Hills, 3 Arney Road, Remuera. The car was taken from complainant’s garage, and was subsequently found in Abbott’s Way, Remuera, badly damaged by fire. Any information regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Superintendent of Police, Auckland.

On the 24th July last complainant became acquainted with the first-described man on the train. Next day, in Wellington, this accused said he had won £IOO from a “ madman ” in the Botanical Gardens, whom he said would not pay the bet until he showed him £IOO to prove that he (accused) could have paid the bet had he lost. Complainant agreed to produce £l2O. They were joined by the last-described accused on the way to the Gardens, where they found the second - described accused, who was feigning insanity. Complainant showed him the £l2O, whereupon he snatched it and commenced to scream. Voices from the surrounding bush called out, “ Leave the man alone.” Complainant and the other two accused then ran away. No warrants.
