Whangarei. 3oth ultimo, on warrant for leaving New Zealand without permission in writing of a Magistrate while moneys payable under a maintenance order are in arrear, John Thomas De Antirad, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, curly black hair, brown eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey soft-felt hat; a half-caste Portuguese. He left Whangarei on the 30th ultimo as a member of the crew of the auxiliary barquentine “Louis Theriault,” for Sydney, Australia. (See Police Gazette, 1926, page 261.)

About 7.30 p.m. on above date, in Everybody’s Theatre, accused indecently assaulted Archie Christopher Thompson, stoker, H.M.S. “ Veronica.” No warrant.

Auckland. 6th ultimo, for assault and robbery, Three Men (names unknown) — (1) age about forty, height 6 ft., strong build, dark complexion, dressed in a dark-giey suit and grey-felt hat with black band ; (2) age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dressed in a grey suit and cap ; and (3) age about forty, height 5 ft. 91 in., strong build, dark complexion, dressed in a grey suit and cap. Whilst walking in Mozley Avenue about 7 p.m. on above date Tom Taylor, engineer, was assaulted by accused and robbed of a gentlemen’s rolled-gold huntingwatch, “ Guaranteed for 10 years ” on inside of back case ; value, £5. Identifiable. No warrants.

Auckland. —7th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £9 18s. costs for drunkenness, Leonard Tozer, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar near left armpit and on right leg, left forefinger missing. About 8.15 p.m. whilst Loma Lawson, 6 Dunkerron Avenue, Epsom, was walking in Great South Road accused indecently assaulted her. He may be identical with Theodore Vincent Casey, referred to in Police Gazette, 1923, page 593, and Photographs, 1924, page 31, who has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted. No warrant.

Opotiki. —22nd April last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Yvonne Snow is the mother, James or John Barron Neave, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., shearer and veterinary surgeon, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a grey-tweed suit and grey-felt hat; plausible manner ; smart appearance ; a labour agitator. Rotorua. sth April last, on warrant for false pretences, Harry Godfrey French, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., traveller, strong build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, clean-shaved ; dressed in a navy-blue suit ; smart appearance. Accused obtained £4 16s. from John Deacon, billiard-room proprietor, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 which he tendered in payment of 4s. for games of billiards. He is supposed to be canvassing for orders for Wakefield’s Castrol motor-oil. .

Napier. —7th instant, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for two months in default of paying £1 15s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Vere Bertram Dawson Foster, alias Vere Bertram Dawson, age twenty-five, height 6 ft. \ in., labourer and grocer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, right little-finger nail injured, left forefinger missing, two moles on right cheek. Napier. — l3th March last, on warrant for theft of £6, the property of Stanley McLeod, Herbert John or Herbert Jones Emrys, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., cartoonist and canvasser, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, scar on one side of neck ; dressed in a grey suit and grey-felt hat. Accused was employed as canvasser by complainant and received the sum of £6 from Dr. MacLaurin, Dannevirke, on terms requiring him to account for same to his employer, but fraudulently omitted to do so. Hastings. —Bth instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, William Taylor, age twenty-six, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in a brown or grey-tweed suit, grey overcoat, and slate-coloured-felt hat. He was employed at Olrig Station, Hawke’s Bay, but left there about the beginning of June, and he may endeavour to leave this Dominion. Petone. —12th March last, for failing,to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Patrick Joseph Ryan, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and fireman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, scar on back of left hand and thumb ; usually dressed in a dark-grey suit and light-tweed cap.
