Auckland. The above are photographs of an instrument found on the] 3rd ultimo hidden in the yard of Messrs Morrin and Fenwick, High Street, which had been used to cut open the safe. (See Police Gazette, 1925, page 485). The instrument is made of 1| in. by f in. oil-hardened spring steel, 1 arranged in two sections, each about 2 ft. long, which may be carried in a folded condition, and when required for use the sections are bolted together as shown in the photographs. A hole is bored in the side or back of the safe, the blade is inserted, and the instrument operated in the same manner as a tin-opener. The steel from which the implement was made was purchased from Messrs. Kidd, Garrett (Limited), Auckland, on the 2nd July last by two men who again purchased a similar length of steel on the 7th ultimo. The latter was apparently manufactured into an instrument of the same design asjabove described, Jand used“’to£cut ■■ open?the Farmers’ Union Trading Company’s safe. Motor-registration Plates stolen. Motor-cycle plates N.Z. 1-829 stolen at Auckland : Should the plates be detected, a communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 25/1101.)

Thefts from Posting-boxes and Slot Telephones. Christchurch. —A person of the following description is suspected by the Christchurch police of having committed the above offences : Age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 4 in., very dark complexion, clean-shaved ; wearing light-coloured shabby overcoat, soft-light-coloured-felt hat turned down, and boots worn at heels ; dirty appearance.
