Eleanor Elizabeth Mary Hamlin, Preston Hill, Panmure, and others, replied to accused’s advertisement and ordered pullets, for which they enclosed cheques. Accused paid the cheques into his account at the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, and disappeared. If located, a communication is to be sent to the Inspector of Police, Hamilton, who wdl forward the file.

Watson (name probably fictitious), age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes, lower teeth loose and covered with tartar; dressed in a light-grey worsted striped suit and dark-tweed overcoat. Accused forged the signature “F. S. Easton ” to a cheque for £lO 9s. on the Bank of New Zealand, Foxton, and uttered it to Alexander Robert Wynne Scott, tailor, Kimbolton Road, in payment of a deposit of £5 9s. on a suit, for which he had been measured, receiving £5 change. He is believed to be identical with Richard Edward Ellis, alias Victor William Edward Ellis, referred to in following paragraph, and Photographs, 1923, utof 9. No warrant.

Wellington. —l9th May last; for attempted false pretences, Richard Edward Ellis, alias Victor William Edward Ellis (referred to in Police Gazette, 1925, page 396, and Photographs, 1923, page 9). Accused attempted to obtain £2O from Dalgety and Co., Featherston Street, Wellington, by falsely representing that his name was W. «T. Stocker, and that he had an account with the Christchurch branch of the above firm. He also obtained, on the 15th ultimo, goods value £2 2s. fid. and £3 18s. 6d. cash from James Stewart Patrick, draper, 193 Cuba Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £6 Is. on the Bank of New South Wales, Carterton. Wellington.— 2nd May last, on warrant for theft of £15 > (recovered), the property of James Buchanan, baker, Cuba Street, James Birss, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 4 in., cook and baker, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair. At midnight on above date accused was discovered underneath complainant’s bed. He handed over £ls which he had stolen, and was then permitted to leave.
