PERSONS WANTED.

Kaitaia. —l7th July last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Miriam Baxter, Herekino, John Baxter, alias John Reed Baxter, alias Frank John Hodges, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman and labourer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, red hair, blue eyes, scar on right forefinger and on chin ; usually dressed in a grey-tweed suit and brown lace-up boots. Kaikoite. —On or about the 21st June, 1921, on warrant for theft of three rugs (two recovered), value £5, the property of Theodore Richard Broomfield, hairdresser, Arthur Henry Rountree, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 4.1 in., tailor, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair going bald, hazel eyes. Accused borrowed the rugs and gave them to Walter Breach, to whom he owed an account for board. (See Police Gazette, 1910, page 901, and Photographs, 1917, page 8.)

Wiiang —24th November last, for forgery and uttering, Woman (name unknown), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., stout build ; dressed in a navy-blue costume and small dark hat; slow in movements; pleasant manner. Accused, who by some means got possession of an Auckland Post-office Savings-bank pass-book, the property of Ada N. Keene, domestic, Omana, Dargaville, called at the Parnell Post-office, forged complainant’s signature to a withdrawal notice, and obtained £BO. The monev consisted of six £lO notes Nos. 025227, 105547, 056250.' 016742, 023950, and 101389 on the Bank of New Zealand, and a £2O note. No warrant.

Auckland. —23rd November last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £45 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his four children, Frederick Jackson, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and stableman, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes; dressed in a dark-grey suit; erect gait; quiet manner ; untidy appearance ; fond of drink. Auckland. 2oth September last, tor failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Albert Bettridge. age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh freckled complexion, red hair, blue eyes, scar on right groin and on chest. Tauranga. —loth July last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £ls 13s. fine and costs for hawking without a license, Albert Chapman, age about twenty- height 5 ft. 6 in., hawker and traveller, native of Australia, strong build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes ; well dressed ; smart .appearance.

Gisborne. — l2th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Thames Police-gaol for seven days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for being found on licensed premises during prohibited hours, Harold Wellsmore, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, large broken nose, scar under left eye, on right cheek, and on left knee, fern on right forearm, left ring-finger crooked, two scars on one shin. Raurtmu. —loth instant, for escaping from Waikune Prison, Frederick George Smith, alias George John Burberry, alias Burburry, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., cook, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes with brown spots, two scars on nose. Hawera. —3lst ultimo, that he may be interviewed regarding the registration of a ‘303 rifle which about December, 1922, he lent to John Howard William Tapp, Jesse Jackson, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 85- in., builder’s labourer, native of England, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; fond of drink : may be accompanied by his son Jesse. The Spit. — 3rd instant, that summonses for assault and obscene language may be served upon him, Charles McCarthy, age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of America; dressed in a blue suit (short coat and baggy trousers) and dark-felt hat.

Napier. —l4th ultimo, that a summons for supplying liquor to a prohibited person may be served upon him, John Murphy, age about thirty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Ireland, swarthy complexion, black hair, cleanshaved ; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat. He has with him a soldier’s kit-bag, with “ John Murphy ” printed thereon.

Christchurch. —7th November last, for theft of a quantity of carpenter’s tools (recovered), value £3 55., the property of Samuel Crook and others, carpenters, Tuam Street, William Owen (name probably fictitious), age about fortyfive, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, strong build, fair ruddy complexion ; shabbily dressed in a grey suit. The tools were stolen from a workshop in Tuam Street and sold in a secondhand shop for 12s. 6d. No warrant.
