Ponsonby.—3oth instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his two children, Percy Westwood Sugden, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., tally clerk, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair hair and complexion, grey eyes; dressed in a blue- or -tweed suit and grey-felt hat. Arrears t0,,19th May last, £ls. i**' Hi hi / 'P "fy Auckland. —10th August last, on warrant for theft of a water-coloured picture, representing three pheasants on the edge of bush covering, in a dark frame, value £5, the property of Roy Stanley Bartley Grose, Selwyn Road, .Kohimarama, Edwin Edgeworth Blunt, alias Murray, alias Oxford, alias Tavendale, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 10 in., native of New Zealand, slight build, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in a blue-serge suit and dark-felt hat. Usually lives at good hotels and boardinghouses. Accused was given the sale of the picture on terms requiring him to return the picture or its value to complainant, which he has failed to do.

Auckland, 2sth ultimo, on warrant for theft of £8 9s. 6d., the property of Harry Dove, carter, Leslie Watson, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 10 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes, two front teeth missing ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and grey-felt hat. Accused, who was acting as conductor on complainant’s motor-bus, stole the money while plying for hire between the railway-station and the racecourse. Auckland. John H. Hardy, false pretences, &c. : It has now been ascertained by the Auckland police that accused left Wellington for Sydney on the Ist June last. He is believed to be identical with Horace Oliver Hardy, referred to in Tasmanian Police Gazette, 1907, page 178. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 207, and 1922, pages 341, 403, and 591.)

Taumarunui. 29th July last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £lO 3s. fine and costs for obscene language, Edward Jones, alias Cairns, age forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and seaman, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, blue eyes ; dressed in a dark-grey-tweed suit and soft-felt hat. Hiiey, alias Hurae Love Tuki Te Rangi, alias Heley, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 6f- in., clerk and canvasser, Maori, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, right eye defective, “ Tuki ” on right forearm, scars on right temple, cheek, arm, and leg. employed by complainant to sell cattle-medicine, received £2 os. 2d. from Te Ua Taranaki on terms requiring him to account for it to his employer, but he failed to do so. There are other charges pending. (See Police Gazette, 1922, page 576, and Photographs, 1920, page 51.)

Wellington.—Bth ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gold watch, watch-chain, and pendant (recovered); three Bengal razors, an Altono razor, a single and a double razor-strop (“ F.S.” cut in one), a shaving-brush, two pairs of hair-clippers, a brief-bag (“ F. S.” on one side), and a pair of pyjama trousers, total value £27 2s. 6d., identifiable, the property of Frank Smith, labourer, Central Dining-rooms, Cuba Street, from whose bedroom they were stolen, Albert Hardley (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 4 in., steward, medium build, dark complexion ; dressed in a dark suit and grey cap. He may be identical with Albert Huxford, age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark hair turning grey. The recovered articles had been pledged in a pawnshop in Manners Street.

Wellington.— instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Thomas Hyman Brickman, alias Morris, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 2 in., jockey, native of New Zealand, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, scar over left eye, mole on left cheek, portion of left ring-finger missing. He left for Australia on 7th ultimo. Christchurch. — 12th ultimo, for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £5, the property of Edmond Patten, Customhouse agent, Manchester Street, J. G. Sutherland (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, large ears and nose ; dressed in a dark-grey suit (no hat). The bicycle was stolen from Moorehouse Avenue and sold to a second-hand dealer. No warrant.

Timaru.— -August last, that he may be compelled-to maintain his wife, Julia Black, and two children, Alexander Black, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman and teamster, native of Scotland, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair and eyes, right eye artificial, scar on back of head, one thumb-nail deformed ; dressed in a greenish-tweed suit, fawn overcoat, and cloth hat; walks with a stoop ; talks slowly ; fond of drink. 111 *l^
