SPECIAL INQUIRY.

Auckland. —lnquiries are to be made to establish the identity of a Man whose dead body was found in a bedroom at the Strand Hotel, Parnell, on the 25th July last. Description: Age about forty-nine, height 5 ft. 91- in., bushman, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue-grey eyes, clean-shaved, scar under left knee-cap, small scar inside of right knee, thin scar on left forearm, scar on right knuckles of ring and little fingers, indistinct scar on left cheek, small hook near top of nose, good teeth. At an inquest held on the 7th instant the Coroner returned a verdict of suicide by poison. The deceased was known to the licensee of the Waiwera Hotel as James Samuel Smith, and an envelope was also found in his property addressed J. S. Smith, Waiw'era. Photographs of deceased appear above. If any information is obtained, a communication is to be sent to the Inspector of Police, Auckland.
