Memorandum.] Opossum Regulations. With reference to memorandum of 19th May, 1921, published in Police Gazette, 1921, page 342, the Internal Affairs Department advises that, as the above regulations have now been in force for some time and persons have had a reasonable opportunity of becoming aware of the provisions, it is not considered necessary that papers in connection with alleged

breaches of the regulations should be referred to that Department in future before proceedings are taken. Prosecutions may therefore be instituted by officers in charge of district without reference to this office.

As the regulations provide that all forfeited skins shall become the property of the Crown, such skins should be sold by auction through a licensed broker appointed for the purposes of the regulations, and the proceeds of the sale paid into the Public Account, and bank receipt forwarded to the Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs. A list of licensed brokers is published hereunder.
